Many Presidents have been sworn in using a private ceremony. Lyndon Johnson, Harry Truman, Calvin Coolidge, Theodore Roosevelt, etc. Basically, all Vice Presidents who were elevated to the Presidency upon the death of their predecessor.

What I’ve been wondering is: In which cases has a newly-elected President been sworn in privately on a Sunday, and then publicly the following day? Has this ever happened? Or have all Sunday swearings-in involved an incumbent President?

It’s nice that the Davis clan will get the privacy they need to see Franks kid take the Oath. His half siblings must be so proud.
