Press fear Obama private swearing in

The White House Correspondents Association is strongly urging the Obama administration to allow press access to the president’s official swearing-in ceremony on Jan. 20, following indications from inauguration committee officials that the event could potentially be closed to the press.

“Mindful of the historic nature of this occasion, we expect the White House will continue the long tradition of opening the President’s official swearing-in to full press access, and we as an organization are looking forward to working with the administration to make that happen,” Ed Henry, the Fox News correspondent and president of the White House Correspondents Association, said in a statement.

You mean they presented their backsides in some other way than that which they always do?

So now we know:

That first swearing in ceremony, which had to be repeated because of a "mistake" when Obama took the Oath of Office, and the words were said "incorrectly" was not really a "mistake" after all. It was all faked. It was planned. Of course, we suspected that, but were criticized and told that we were "racist" for thinking anything negative about Obama's oath-taking ceremony.

Obviously, that first time Obama wanted a private swearing in, sans the Good Book. He did not want to officially swear to anything with with his hand on the Bible. And in that private one...which was never seen by the public, the press, or videoed in its entirety...did he use a Koran - or no religious book at all?

So, here, again for this ceremony he has to do something to avoid taking a vow with his hand on the Bible. But this time they can't play the same trick and make another "mistake," with the words can they? Americans were fooled the first time...they would not fall for another "mistake." Two times would be suspicious. This, of course, is not! ???

And the press still does not see it, and how Obama has played them - both figuratively and in actuality.

Now...who does not believe that Obama is NOT a Christian? Who cannot see that he is totally unwilling to vow to uphold the Constitution and protect this country from our enemies while placing his hand on the Bible? Who does not understand that Obama is a Muslim who would find using a Bible both offensive and the act of an infidel? And who knows what words he actually said in that first, private, ceremony...or will say this time? I bet he writes his own vows and they do not include anything that is in the Official Oath of Office.

OK, I'll take a shot at this. The requirement is for the President to be sworn in at 1200, January 20. If that occurs on a Sunday, then the public ceremony is held on Monday, the 21st, but the President is sworn in at the White House on Sunday. This occurred with the second inaugural for President Reagan. I was there for it as I worked the event as a White House Social Aide. The press all worked off one pool camera that broadcast the event. And if you saw it on TV, you saw me as I escorted Minister Billy Graham to the stage who said the prayer during the swearing in. By the way, I can also tell you that Nancy Reagan was particularly insistent that the swearing in occur at precisely 12 noon.

This isn't anything special, it's just that January 20 falls on a Sunday this time around. And, as I recall, there were no press at Reagan's second swearing in at the White House - just the pool camera and the regular White House photographer to document the event. About 90 guests were invited to observe and then another 200 or so were invited to the White House immediately after the swearing in for the after event party.

You’re wrong. President Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration was done in a private White House ceremony that was broadcast on TV (with one pool camera). The public ceremony was to be on Monday, Jan 21st, but it was cancelled due to the extreme cold and snow — fearing severe health problems if folks were to gather and wait 3 hours or more for the event. And I remember it — I went to the Capital to practice for the event late Sunday afternoon and just standing out on the platform for 20 minutes I almost lost feeling in my finger tips (in military gloves). They made the right decision to cancel it.

I still believe Chief Justice Roberts handed the Republicans a silver bullet and they refused to take it.

By saying that the ACA was unconstitutional with the penalties, and that they had to be taxes, means that we are facing the largest tax increase in history - most of which will be on the middle class. Yet, the Republicans did not exploit that message.

I think Justice Roberts was brilliant in his ruling - evidently too brilliant.

I think Roberts flubbed the oath on purpose last time so there could be a private swearing the next day using the Koran and his Muslim name, “Hussein”.

This is the first president in history who has taken two oaths “in private”.

I see. Well, they at least planned it and set it up as a witnessed event in public or with some people there to see it. And they broadcast it to the world at any event (bad weather conditions notwithstanding), so millions of Americans still saw him taking the oath. That’s still a far cry from planning to do it in secret. Thanks for the info.
