Wait.. If Palin was a quitter for stepping down before the end of her term what does that make DeMint?

A quitter. Hope he likes he new job. I’ll never vote for him.

He is moving on to become president of the the Heritage Foundation and is sending the RINOE a message. I say good for him.

DeMint has stated many times that he was not running for re-election again in 2014 - he has said that no senator should serve more than 2 terms, so he is practicing what he preaches.

He has very little power in the senate anyway, and Tim Scott would be huge bonus as senator.

Possibly a strong CONSERVATIVE candidate for President. DeMint is going where he can be most effective. Building the conservative base and pulling them together as a coalition.

No racing to the left with the RINOS. Sitting under the Dems and Reed in the Senate is no a no man’s land for a conservative.

He will be much more effective at the Heritage Foundation and his voice will not be drowned out by the leftists in Washington.

Palin did the right thing too. She has been very effective since she left the Governorship.

Gee Whiz, give it a rest already. Are you still working the first job you ever had? Have you always worked at each job exactly as long as everyone else thought you should? What if you made a commitment to doing what was best for the company, and it turns out at a particular moment, you quitting was the best thing for the company? Is that still quitting? Or what if you're a commander with troops who trust your judgment, and you decide to strategically withdraw from one battle so you can regroup for a more important one? Are you still a quitter then? Even George Washington was a quitter by those standards.

Look, if we don't keep and nurture our own best talent (Palin, DeMint, etc.), who will we have left? Brainless people who don’t know enough to quit a dead end when they ought to, that's who. We can't afford to be leaderless, least of all over non-issues. You give up your vote for DeMint if you must, but I promise you this; I will see that vote and raise you two more (No, not cheaters votes, persuaders votes, the good kind), just to make the point. If an army is going to win, it needs troops and it needs commanders. If we "shoot" all our own commanders, and especially those with exceptional strategic skills, how does that help us?

Maybe instead you should rethink your branding of Palin as a quitter.

It’s a good comparison but it was NOT DeMint’s fault that Palin was called a quitter.

She was in an untenable situation in Alaska and made her move in part to facilitate her role as a Tea Party leader and national voice for conservatism—and possible presidential candidate.

DeMint is making a similar move for similar reasons though the situation is quite different. Neither DeMint nor Palin deserve abuse here at FR of all places.

Why are we always making the Left (and RINO’s) flawed arguments for them?
