Californians buying guns at record rate
ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER ^ | 12/5/2012 | CLAUDIA KOERNER

Posted on 12/05/2012 2:04:15 PM PST by dragnet2

Californians are buying more guns than ever.

As of November, the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System had run 981,798 background checks related to guns in California, beating out totals for previous years before 2012 is even over. The numbers jumped about 8 percent from last year, part of a steady increase since 2008.

This year, however, the system broke records, with 154,873 calls on Nov. 23, up about 20 percent from Black Friday last year. With the high volume of calls, officials shut down call centers briefly to allow the system to catch up, Fischer said.

Among California gun buyers, the spike was even more pronounced.

Across all levels of government, officials have made moves to regulate gun ownership, he added. While the most restrictive regulations would likely be overturned by courts under the Second Amendment's right to bear arms, Eastman said a risk of control was enough to encourage prospective gun owners to buy while they can.

Outside of political strife, economic uncertainty has also inspired people to look for more protection, he said. Violent crimes have steadily declined in recent years, according to FBI statistics, but Eastman said concerns remain that those in desperate financial straits could be a threat to safety. With talk among politicians about cutting social benefits, financial hardships could become worse for many, creating an even more volatile situation, he said. Concerns are also high about preparedness in case of disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy.

"It's like a perfect storm," he said.

Charlie Blek, president of the Orange County chapter of advocacy group the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence "The National Rifle Association has done a wonderful of demonizing President Obama," he said.

We have Feinstein's number on speed dial. No use calling boxer's office, they let the voice mail fill up and never man the phones!

Filling up the voice mail is useful because someone has to take the time to empty it. And emails are not entirely lost, as someone has to sit there and at least hit the delete button over and over.

And, yes, many, many of our liberals came from other states - it used to be rare to find anyone born in CA. Seemed like everyone came from somewhere else.

I actually had a Californian went into our den and she ‘went off’ on the ‘dead animals’ hanging on the walls.

I hunted when I was young. But as I became older, I found I really like animals and have great respect for them...In fact, I'd only shoot an animal today if I needed food to survive for my family and I.

I'd never to it for sport.

I have no problem with people who hunt to support their survival. But I see hanging animal heads on walls as if it were some kind of big accomplishment strikes me as rather barbaric. I think someone who needs to shoot an animal for survival or to help reduce the food bill, should be somewhat humble and respectful.

But you're free to do what ya want.

Hey slick, lets recap, you said:

This very attitude is why nothing will change positively in CA. Its everyone else’s fault. Hmm, sounds like liberal logic.

Are you taking the blame for having a Communist block captain out of Chicago as President?

Is it everyone else fault?

Is it your fault for being outnumbered? Are you a coward? Why didn't you stop this?

You blame CA conservatives for everything wrong in CA?

Yet your entire government is a cesspool of socialism, as you do nothing to point the finger at everyone else.

I dont live in all the other 49 states.

What kind of bull cheet is this bucko?

Are you not part of the *United* States? How could you allow Obama to become president?

You asked if I or others in CA are cowards..WTF?? People claiming to be conservatives here are some of the first to flee and run away from the leftist and libs...Is this the fault of conservatives who choose to stand their ground Mr. 556?

Look, I don't live in every city and county in CA...Some counties/cities out number others. Can I use this for an excuse like you did?

You logic to illogical and tainted.

I'm growing weary of your weak BS.

No comment on her thinking that “guns just went off and killed people?”

My husband is 77 years old and doesn't hunt anymore but he grew up in a hunting family and a hunting culture that grew out of the hunting for food population. That makes all the difference. Like the California resident who grew up in the culture of guns are bad and “guns go off and kill people”. She probably thinks that SUV’s are bad and kill people too.

I have no idea what you’re talking about and had nothing to do with what I said. BTW, there are those who think like that, who live everywhere including your own neighborhood.

“Better stock up on kerosine to burn the rotting corpses after the big crash.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I actually believe the “WALKING DEAD” TV series is a metaphor for what most Americans fear is coming but it will be the WALKING BRAINDEAD, all the idiots who thought the government could furnish everything for everybody who will have brought this on. Once their benefits are cut off they will be wandering around looking for anyone who has something they can steal. It is amazing how many now seem to have no concept of the fact that government has nothing to give without first stealing it from someone. Those who have reached adulthood without ever being exposed to the real world literally do not understand where things like food, clothing and shelter come from. They think that everything just magically appears on the store shelves and always will. If questioned about it they may laugh at what I have said and say that nobody is that stupid BUT THEY LIVE IN A WAY THAT SHOWS THAT THEY ARE BASING THEIR ACTIONS ON SUCH A BELIEF.
It irks me that all these ill informed people quite often ask why everything “costs so much”. I wish they would ask the real question which is, “Why is my money becoming worthless?”

Your first comment to me was on my post at #159. I mentioned 2 stupid things a California resident said to me. The first one was on guns, the subject of your thread, you chose not to even notice it and went right to the hunting comment. Fine with me. Why don’t you post a thread about the weather?

I hear you. I have already moved to the next stage of readiness by moving the full clips of 5.56 and 7.62 from the drawer to the weapon.

The wheel guns were already within reach and the semis are now ready for backup.

The next time I am forced to go through with crisis resolution, I don’t expect to be front page news and will just be another American defending his life.

“Absence of logic and consistency are requirements for being a modern day Democrat.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Oh, you just don’t understand logic and consistency, fortunately I had a liberal gentleman to explain it to me once. It goes like this you see, we conservative cave dwellers believe that an unborn child has the right to life simply by virtue of being human while someone who kills a child should be executed by virtue of being inhuman. The liberal geniuses believe the EXACT OPPOSITE. What does this mean? Well it means of course that we, the cave dwelling conservatives, are INCONSISTENT while the liberal geniuses are CONSISTENT. I have a problem understanding this because it seems to me that if one position is inconsistent then the exact opposite would be inconsistent as well, therefore either both would be inconsistent or one would be consistent and right and the other would be consistent and wrong but I am a cave dwelling conservative and lack the higher faculties with which to comprehend the genius of the liberal thought process. I hope this clears things up for you.

Im not sure why you keep repeating the same argument. Guess youll just have to study it and reread until you comprehend.

I didnt blame conservatives. I blamed gun owners.

Were talking about states not the country and gun laws in particular.

I didnt ask if you were cowards. I said that you were. I dont care how it happened. Bortom line is you allowed it. No one else is to blame. Until you own the problem itll never change for the better.

Thats right, you dont live in every county/city. However, CA is uniformly anti-gun. Nonetheless you still own the problems in your neighborhood and state in a wider sense.

Fair enough, be tired & weary. It changes nothing in your state. It changes nothing about CA gun owners inaction/laziness/cowardice. Its there for everyone else to see. bye...

The only thing that’s here for everyone to see is your lack of logic. Anyone can read back. You’re wrong on nearly every comment you made and evaded nearly every question ask.

You’re FOS.

Yup. check the link out. all hand guns(except single action revolvers) will essentially fall off the list from attrition. Last expiration date is 12/31/13. see for yourself http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/
