So tax increases are a done deal.

The only questions are “whose taxes?” and “how much?”

Marc Lamont-Hill, went on to say he likes the idea, as “it could make this country even more democratic and fair”....

I’m telling you folks, we need an effective way to attack this notion that the government job is manage “fairness”!

This is what happens when you let concepts like “social justice” run unchallenged.

The same strategy they always use. Call for something completely over the top, call for Republicans to compromise, Republicans compromise, Democrats get all of what they really wanted all along.

This is exactly how Hugo Chavez has succeeded in Venezuela. He does not strive to be an outright dictator with 99% of the vote like Saddam Hussein. He is a dictator of the 51%, who steals from the 49%. And the 51% keep voting him in.

It is high profile rich limo-liberals who are demanding higher taxes but they know they will not pay because they shield their income with tax loops like activist lefty foundations.

If we are going to meet their demands, we have to target and really make them pay. We have to cut their loopholes and raise their rates as they requested. Then that will be that for limo-liberals and democrats.

Republicans have to start paying back these elitists with policy targeting them. 96% of ivy leaugers paid to support liberals...they should be looking over their sholders every step of the way for Republicans to gouge their institutions. The GOP needs to start fighting against it’s elitist enemies for real.

Hollywierd and Network tee vee needs big taxes on their businesses, too. They are purely a force of the raical left. Why are Republicans protecting entertainment industry’s copyright protection activism? Let them go under and protect real business copyrights. Be selective on who the GOP supports based on who is pushing for communism. Make the communists bleed.

So this is how life is in Russia..people wanted this crap, they wanted to live under Communism, this is the nightmare that many envisioned, where you have the Govt coming to your house, counting your stuff, and taxing it as they see fit

So the GOP isn’t even calling for dollar for dollar tax hikes vs spending cuts. They’re just going to fold over with asking anything in return. So basically we have a National Front government with the GOP being a satellite party of the ruling socialist government.

So he's saying the Dems want to tax not just income but actual wealth? If so, that would be crossing a huge new line. In fact I'm not even sure it would be constitional for the federal government to do that (after googling a little bit, it clearly would not).

It doesn't surprise me they'd be considering it though. I saw Michael Moore pushing a wealth tax during the hubbub in Winsconsin. He said the answer to Wisconsin's budget problems was to ignore Scott Walker and instead just lay a direct tax on Wisconsin's wealthy. Of course that would've been state not federal, but the general idea is obviously dancing like sugar plums in leftist heads.

“The trick... is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and, hence, facilitate some redistribution, because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level, to make sure that everybody’s got a shot,” Obama said.

“Wealthy”...anybody with a pot to piss in. They plan to confiscate your pot so you’ll only be able to use federally approved piss plans.

I’m not envious of honestly-earned wealth and I don’t really support a wealth tax. But it would be nice to see how far the idea gets and watch liberal rich b!tches from Roseanne Barr to Warren Buffet squirm.

Bitch and moan - bitch and moan, thats all they do about the wealthy ...

For Chrissakes, some guy wrote an opinion article about those that had generators during Superstorm Sandy - saying it wasn't fair that some people had them and others didn't ...

this is the reason that Warren Buffet is so adamant about the rich paying more in taxes...He is trying to avoid this very “wealth tax” at all costs I think that it is the worst idea since the inheritance tax...

This rationale is in line with the Kelo ruling of SCOTUS. A wealth tax is an eminent domain taking of your property by the government.

In Kelo, the court ruled that an eminent domain taking must be for a public use, and that the higher taxes gained by more profitable use by a different owner would be a public good. In other words, a public good was a valid public use.

Now they are saying that it is a public good to take more property from a wealthy private owner, but without fair compensation.
