Hostess Brands Inc. lived to die another day.
The maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs said late Tuesday that it failed to reach an agreement with its second-biggest union. As a result, Hostess plans to continue with a hearing on Wednesday in which a bankruptcy court judge in White Plains, N.Y., will decide if the company can shutter its operations.
The renewed talks between Hostess and The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union came after the company declared last week that it would move to wind down its business and start selling off its assets in bankruptcy court. The company cited a crippling strike that was started on Nov. 9 by the union, which represents 30 percent of Hostess workers.
After making its case to liquidate on Monday, the bankruptcy court judge noted that the two sides hadn't yet tried resolving their differences through private mediation. The judge noted that 18,000 jobs were on the line and urged the company and union to try to resolve their differences. Both sides agreed to hold mediation proceedings on Tuesday.

Well liberals must be happy, I have read so many offensive posts by them on Facebook and elsewhere, all about how these jobs “weren’t worth it” and how no one would care about these 18,500 lousy jobs if the company didn’t make Twinkies.
Liberals are evil and it appears even many here don’t know what is coming.
In the time between when the mediation failure was announced late this afternoon and now, hundreds of thousands of twinkies could have been eaten but weren’t.
They’ll all probably fly back home on Eastern Airlines.
Let the judge buy and run the company then-—dopes.
...and ride in Checker cabs back home from the airport.
Or drive Pontiacs, Saturns, and Hummers.....
I bet it was worth it to the truck driver in Detroit making 120 grand to deliver Twinkies....
I’ve read that some Mexican billionaire is looking into buying Hostess.
From what I’ve read, the unions actually think they’ll be able to get their sweetheart deals from the Mexican. I think they’ll be unpleasantly surprised... the majority of Americans won’t care if Hostess cakes are baked in Mexico, where the company won’t have to keep borrowing to keep up with sweetheart pension and benefits packages. Which is what will happen if the Mexican billionaire does buy the company and moves operations to avoid the unions.
Typical liberals. They have no understanding of economics, and truly believe that companies can just produce money on demand. With all of their striking, they just can’t force blood out of turnips...
for those who need it..TWINKIE RECIPE
ZeroHedge thinks the union was betting on a GM style bailout but the timing (after the election) screwed them:
A judge can order a company not to go bankrupt? So, what does the company supposed to do when none of it’s suppliers will sell to them?
Have some Ho-Hope and change!
I've already ordered my canoe pan from Amazon.com. Once it arrives, I will be test baking various Twinkie substitutes.
Fairs will never be the same without deep fried Twinkies.
:(
let us know how they turn out...
