Of course they are relieved. Two years of unemployment checks can now start flowing. After that is exhausted, Social Security Disability until they turn 62. Then Social Security kicks in until they die.
Hunt, fish, do a few side jobs that pay under the table and they are set for life.
Hell, I would be relieved too. Except, I have my pride.

Bingo. The amount and variety of welfare given the “47%” is staggering - equivalent to wage earner making $60,000 a year. They’d be crazy not to welcome the closing.
Eastern North Carolina is one of the desperately poor areas of this country and there will not jobs available for these people - and they are, for the most part, happy, happy.

A person on strike cannot file for unemployment.
This could get rather tangled.
Meanwhile—the bankruptcy court ordered the cut in pay and benefits.
