Hostess employees in Nash County, North Carolina on Friday were relieved that they would lose their jobs because union workers would not agree to an 8-percent pay cut, which was approved by a bankruptcy judge, and end their strike, which crippled the company's factories across the United States.
Their reactions were surprising, because Nash County has an unemployment rate of 11.1 percent.
Lamont Phillips, an employee, said the company had been, holding this over our head for a long time, and he was relieved he did not have to deal with that anymore.
They always hold that over our heads, that theyll close it down, he said. So, Im like, OK. Close it down.
Phillips said his potential layoff was a "relief" and his "plan is to find another job."

It is too bad that after such incidents that the local union president didn’t suffer an unfortunate workplace accident and was redistributed as the filling for various bakery products - Thinking like a union thug.
No wonder Hostess was struggling. They were employing imbeciles.
>>Lamont Phillips, an employee, said the company had been, holding this over our head for a long time, and he was relieved he did not have to deal with that anymore.
Not understanding this. You couldn’t go get another job if it bothered you so much? Why are you letting someone else control your life, grow a pair and take charge of your life.
“I see you worked at Hostess for a number of years. We’ll call you. NEXT!”
>>Lamont Phillips, an oven operator and the president of the local union.”
Ah, now that makes perfect sense. He’ll still get his union $$$ and the other workers can just go pound sand.
I want nothing moving to Texas that is relieved to have lost his job. Move somewhere else. Geez?
A person who is on strike CANNOT file for UNEMPLLYMENT money. They MIGHT get ‘strike benefits’ from the Union, but they cannot get unemployment.
Now that the company has been forced to close because of a strike, there may be some serious legal entanglements for the UNION members to get unemployment.
Especially since the bankruptcy court had ordered a cut in benefits & a cut in pay to keep the company aline.
The Unions on strike basically defied a court order. Dan any of them be prosecuted?
Meanwhile, for anyone who is hiring-—do NOT hire a single person from this brain dead group. They will be nothing but trouble in your future.
Extended unemployment checks cease on Dec 31.
A person on strike cannot file for unemployment.
This could get rather tangled.
Meanwhile—the bankruptcy court ordered the cut in pay and benefits.
Funny how the MSM never mentions that!!!
Lamont is also the President of the Local Union, which was on strike....
Funny- Strikers cannot get unemployment benefits.
Somehow and can’t see working at Biscuitville a step up for Lamont.
Beer is missing....
They are if you have an EBT card.
What an idiot! As soon as a potential employer sees "Hostess" on the work history they will be shown the door.
No one with 10% of the brains of a jackass will hire anyone who is proud of driving their former employer out of business.
