The Constitution limited the federales to indirect taxes ~ to minimize interaction between them and the public.

The entire federal government was financed with mostly tariffs until the passage of the 16th amendment.

We can see how far the income tax has brought us ~ all the way to the point of national banruptcy.

We did much better on tariffs.
