Lt. Col. Ralph Peters On Petraeus: "Timing Is Just Too Perfect" (Video)
Real Clear Politics ^ | 11/9/12 | Lt. Col. Ralph Peters

LT. COL. RALPH PETERS: The timing is just too perfect for the Obama administration. Just as the administration claimed it was purely coincidence that our Benghazi consulate was attacked on the anniversary of September 11th. Now it’s purely coincidence that this affair -- extra-marital affair -- surfaces right after the election, not before, but right after, but before the intelligence chiefs go to Capitol Hill to get grilled. As an old intelligence analyst, Neil, the way I read this -- I could be totally wrong, this is my interpretation -- is that the administration was unhappy with Petraeus not playing ball 100% on their party-line story. I think it's getting cold feet about testifying under oath on their party-line story. And I suspect that these tough Chicago guys knew about this affair for a while, held it in their back pocket until they needed to play the card.

***** “Patraeus is the consummate military General. He doesn’t get to pick his boss. You and I do and if we elect a commie SOB, that becomes his boss.” *****

WRONG

He isn’t General any more (He held the Rank and is referred to as ... but his Job now / was that a Government Employee the head of the CIA “Director of the CIA” he retired from the Army...

“On June 30, 2011, Petraeus was unanimously confirmed as the next Director of the CIA by the U.S. Senate 94-0.[16] Petraeus relinquished command of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan on July 18, 2011 and retired from the U.S. Army on August 31, 2011”

He is a Civilian not Military. He picked his Boss!

Napolitano does seem quite talented at building her power base at the expense of any separation of powers. Look how she has built Homeland Security into an independent and all encompassing department. I don’t want her and her lady friends anywhere close to the CIA (or DOJ for that matter).

Thanks for your service on the physical battlefield, Petraeus. What was the mission again?

R.I.P. Americas finest.

TY, I expect Petraeus to testify under oath in public after being subpeonaed. It’s the only way he can tell the truth to America.
He made a mistake and was seduced by an adoring fan/biographer but his legacy is not quite as defiled as most might think. I hope he gets that chance and can afford good body guards in the meantime.

I hope he blows the whole thing wide open and that it will lead, before the Inauguation Day ceremony, to Impeachment of the Kenyan Marxist, Biden, Clinton, Panetta et al and lead them past the Do Not Pass Go line other than the one that places them firmly in the slammer for years for high crimes.

I hope you are correct! The Benghazi scandal is SO much worse than Watergate ever was. I did not vote for Nixon, (although I would have had I been registered to vote at the time), but he was "safely" re-elected and all seemed to be well only to have it all come crashing down as the months after the election went on. By the following August, Nixon resigned to avoid impeachment. We may still have the last laugh on Mr. Obama. What would be even better is for those who voted for him to see what a traitor he is! I think that is what has been hardest for me to accept about the results of the election - that such a person and his "moocher" of a wife still occupy the People's House.

Paula Broadwell is a Major in the Army Reserves...if he was having an affair with her while on active duty he most certainly could lose his pension....

Petraeus was distracted when O wanted him to head CIA? Didn’t think it thru, could certainly have retired then.

More likely her (if she was due one) ... he is a Civilian now.

If he did the deed prior to Retiring and she drops the dime on him ... maybe

But she better get a good advance on the book deal if she thinks she will come out ahead.

If the FBI had the goods on him before his Retirement then they are complicate because he was vetted prior to his Confirmation by the Senate... then a whole new can of worms is opened.

He did Retire ... Director of the CIA was a brand new Gig... as a Civilian.

There are TWO different Worlds, Military and Civilian... the Military lives under the rules of BOTH and the Civilian just the Civilian set of rules.
He Retired so he is a Civilian unless he is an Inactive Reservist (don’t think that was the case)... the rules get a bit murkier after that.

TT

Please anyone correct me if I am wrong, I was Enlisted. Officers are appointed... they may have a different set of rules but I think I am right.

Intel guys live under more stringent rules, especially those associated with more clandestined work.

Sorry I knew Petreaus retired from the Army to join the CIA...wondered why at the time, since he would have been obvious choice for Pentagon or Joint Chiefs or politician, but CIA?
Anyhow, knew he was retired military, just thought why not retire completely? Obviously he probably wonders why he didn’t retire from public life as well?

Once somebody is that high up in the military/intel/black ops business, they don’t really ‘retire’.

With all the conjecture going on, it might be noted that in that world, those closest to it might frequently not know what’s going on, but have multiple ‘games’ in play.

One learns in the military that if you want to know what’s going on, don’t believe anything you read in the press.

With the intel world, it’s even more circumspect.

The league of games being played internationally over the past 4-12 years have been so veiled, where technology can document things worldwide in minutes, it’s really hard to tell what is going on with all these resignations/firings/replacements.

More stringent than the President? (Clinton)

I don’t remember Bill being worried about any Military Rules other than the Soldier Sailor Act that he pulled out of his butt trying not to testify... other than that the UCMJ was not mentioned... if it could and he was subject to it, Bill would still be doing his morning Pushups for the Marines at Leavenworth.

(don’t remember the specifics, but he tried to say that since he was CIC there was that whole Soldier Sailor thing that wouldn’t allow him to Testify, I have to look it up, I will get back with that)

Searched Google and couldn’t find the “Sailor” defense that he (Bill Clinton) tried to use ... he tried to drag the UCMJ into his Impeachment for his defense and we all know that did not work.

I am not a Lawyer, don’t play one on TV... but after what Clinton did and what the Judges said from what I comprehend (again I’m not a Lawyer) Politicians need never fear the UCMJ again. Director of the CIA is a Political position (he is Appointed and Confirmed by Politicians) so even if Patraeus was a Retired Reservist the UCMJ would not apply. He would be liable only under Civil Law and the rules of his Office.

Again why would the rules of his (Patraeus) Office be more stringent than that of the President?
(I know it happens... again I was Enlisted and if I had gotten caught doing what Clinton did while I was on Duty I’d be the most Buff and In Shape 60 year old you ever saw and I would be in Leavenworth with Marines keeping me in line and in that shape everyday.)

If Monica was an Officer? (Retired or Reservist) would that make it different? I know if ol Bill was an Enlisted guy instead of CIC it would have made a big difference.

**** “One learns in the military that if you want to know what’s going on, don’t believe anything you read in the press.” ****

Learned that in Central America where the press showed up uninvited ... then a few short years later reporters weaseled their way into Ops as Inbeds we called them “Casualties” because they required as many people to care for them as a Casualty did and they were so stupid it was like they were wearing a sign that said “Shoot Me” those guys that got stuck with that detail earned their Hazardous Duty Pay.
