Herman Cain Calls for Creation of Third Party
Fox News ^ | November 8,2012 | Todd Starnes

Posted on 11/08/2012 5:38:40 AM PST by Hojczyk

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is calling for the creation of a third political party — saying it is clear to him that neither major political party is willing to address the nation’s economic problems.

“We need a third party to save this country,” Cain told American Family Radio host Bryan Fischer. “This country is in trouble and it is clear that neither party — is going to fix the problems we face.”

Cain agreed with Fischer’s assessment that conservatives are growing tired of being ignored by Republican party leadership — and that many believe the GOP no longer speaks for them.

Cain said it was troubling that Mitt Romney received fewer votes than John McCain did in 2008 — suggesting that many conservatives did not vote on Tuesday.

“I don’t believe the Republican Party has the ability to rebrand itself against the mainstream media machine that blatantly works to support this president and other liberals as well as the Democrats,” Cain told the radio host.

Cain said it would take money, leadership and at least 50 coalitions to create a viable third political party.

“You need one for every state because of the whacky rules state by state that they have that make it difficult for a third party to emerge,” he said. He said the new party could be made up of not only disenfranchised Republicans — but also Democrats.

“There are just as many disgruntled Democrats would probably be a part of this movement as there are Republicans — who are sick of the political class,” Cain told American Family Radio. “Realistically, it is more viable today than it has ever been.”

That’s just the point! Fred and Herman had other Conservatives in the primaries who split the vote. Herman had Bachmann, Santorum, Mister NOOT & seems like another 1 or 2. They watered it down, and we ended up getting a flip flopping rino. If Herman hadn’t had the other Conservatives around, because of a pre-Conservative only primary, he would have had enough support to withstand the charges. We can shove a Conservative down the throat of the rnc by doing it that way.

I have to agree with you. I was appalled by some of the nonsense that went on during the primary. Romney was running a very negative campaign against his ‘fellow’ Republicans. During the same time that he was refusing the criticize Obama. Remember he went so far as to accuse many of them (Santorum, Newt and co.) of being ‘fake’ conservatives. Which considering his past record (much discussed here on FR) was laughable.

I got the feeling Romney respected Obama far far more than he did the other Republican candidates. Romney expected that everyone would fall in line and go to war with the Army they had. Well most of the candidates did as they dropped out one by one. That kind of treatment is no strategy to endear the supporters of these candidates to Romney (we didn't have campaign debt we needed his money for).

It continued after the primary when I began receiving email after email begging for my help in getting Romney elected. I was encouraged to sign up and make phone calls ect. Why was there no push of the same magnitude to enlist help getting Senators and congress critters elected? Romney's campaign made no call for the Tea party to help. He just thought he'd declare himself part of it (with the help of Ann Coulter) and everyone would fall in line.

Now of course the story has changed. NOW he tells us we have to reach across the aisle, as he said in his resignation speech.

Laura Ingraham said if that If the pubs couldn’t beat an incumbent this bad, they deserve to go away.

I feel like I gave the Republican party one last chance to save themselves, and they were too stupid to take it.

My take on the next election is:

R 33, D 33, Herman Cain or Sarah Palin as Tea Party, Independent, Constitution Party, whatever 34%.

It’s time to use the numbers against the status quo.

Ross Perot was crazy, and he still got lots of votes.

Everyone knows revolution is coming.

Which do you prefer - violent revolution, or revolution at the ballot box?

BOR pointed out last night that conservatives are less than 50% so they can’t win by themselves, but he was only discussing a two party division - there are more than 34%, so in a 3 way split, conservatives could win with a lot less votes than either one got on election night.

Alan West is contesting the vote. We really need a fighter like him. If the pubs redistict him out because he’s too conservative, he might be happy to be a part of the new party.

Bingo - exactly what I thought should have happened last time. There were enough votes split among all the conservative candidates to beat Romney if they were all coalesced into the support for one.

" I laugh at people who call for “third” parties when there are over 20 to choose from as it is now"

Laugh your ass off.

A week ago we had one and a half parties.

As of Tuesday nite we have only one party now. If someone wants to talk about forming an effective opposition party I'm interested in hearing them out.

It’s coming.

The Tea Party has had enough of the Wizards of Smart. Time to take our ball and go home (a la the C-CRAP affair that happened in Canada in the early 1990’s)

It will give the Dems free reign as we establish ourselves while the GOP whiggifies. But perhaps in 15 or 20 years they’ll have run the train into the ditch so often we’ll have our shot.

Are you going to create that party Herman? Then quit when the election gets tough? Forget it, you walked away, keep walking.

did 3rd party votes hand victory to Obama? We need more than a third party.

Gary Johnson got about 1% of the vote, that's huge for a third party presidential election, especially one as charged as this. The question is "why?"
The obvious answer is that Romney is a socialist, and thus far too similar to Obama (leave the rhetoric and campaigning aside, look at his past) -- the GOP chose "Status Quo" and the voters wanted something else, why else would the numbers be lower than McCain?

Go for it, Herman.

The Grand Old Plantation naysayers are already trying to deflate whatever conservative enthusiasm remains. The GOP-E declared war on us and I for one won’t forget it.

I agree totally. It requires too much effort and capital to run a national campaign. We can begin by:
1.) Halting all campaign contributions to the RNC or for that matter, most state R committees;
2.) Focus our money and personal efforts on electing those who share our principles;
3.) Vetting candidates;;
4.) Challenging GOP platform issues as needed;
5.) Holding GOP leaders feet to the fire;
6.) Carefully build a brand that will hold up under the fire that is sure to come from critics of all persuasions;
7.) Organize;
8.) Obtain funding.

Half measures or pie in the sky expectations will not cut it. There is a ton of blocking and tackling that will be required.

We have lost a major battle and the enemies of freedom and our founding principles have the initiative. As was the case in the Revolution we have limited resources and therefore need to fight an asymmetric battle.

“It is time to start thinking logically and not emotionally. I fear we lose elections because people refuse to think logically.”

Absolutely correct. We need to revolt against the Republican Party. “Conservative” should mean “conserve the constitution.” We need to reshape the platform to focus on reigning in the federal government to its constitutional powers. Magic Fingers has a good point about eliminating some of the anti-depravity issues from the platform. I am a born-again Christian, but I will happily vote for any candidate that will defend the Constitution against all foreign and domestic enemies. The Democrats toss out these wedge issues on abortion, homosexuality, etc., to drive people away from Republicans. Be real - How much power does the President have to determine whether an anti-abortion bill has an exception for rape or incest? If the legislators legislated and the judges adjudicated and the president administrated based upon the Enumerated Powers, our federal tax burden would drop below our state taxes

We need to focus on fixing the GOP. After re-electing Obama, can't the majority of Republicans be convinced that being Democrat-lite and playing on their playground do not work. While the Democrats can't be honest about what they stand for and where they want to take the country, we can be because our position is morally and constitutionally sound. Unfortunately, it is difficult to explain why Robinhood was wrong, but it is about time we forced the GOP to try to articulate why it is immoral and unconstitutional for the federal government to be Robinhood.

Respectfully, because resources are limited, fighting this battle within the framework of the GOP is a waste of those resources. Better to start from the outside, where your items 1, 4 and 5 will not be necessary.

The eventual goal should be to get the Republican Party to realize that should it wish to remain a national player, it needs to conform to its base rather than the other way around.

Kicking this rotten unit in its power structure is the only way to get it to listen. Removal of the base from that power structure is the only way to make that happen.

Wherever you move, you’re going nowhere with anti-abortion as a key political plank. There has been a massive demographic attitude shift on that issue and it’s never coming back.

Your post shows exactly where we are. You are so sure your position is the correct one, that if we would only concentrate on economics, and constitutional government, happy days would be here to stay.

Just a few moments ago, I heard a radio talk show host claim that if only Romney had been more forceful on the moral issues of abortion and gay marriage, he would have won.

Both cannot be right. This is why we must acknowledge we have our differences within our family but we are united to rid our country of this cancer called liberalism.

I do not care what name we want to put on our party--it doesn't matter. What matters is our mutual determination to save our country. I fear it is too late. We had too many stay home because Romney did not satisfy them. I just heard this same radio talk show host ask why should those who stood in line for hours waiting for a Chic-fil-A go to the polls and vote for Romney.

For me that's easy--because the alternative was so much worse. For all those who stayed home or voted "third party", what is your plan to save our nation?

We already have this many “third parties”. Isn’t this enough? There’s a reason why they don’t win elections and another one will only make matters worse.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_party_%28United_States%29
