Seal Team November 6: Aims to Stare Down Voter Intimidation in Philadelphia
Philly Mag ^ | November 1st, 2012 | Larry Mendte

Posted on 11/06/2012 6:58:03 AM PST by AmonAmarth

Call them “Seal Team November 6.” Special operations veterans, including former Navy Seals, Delta Force will be called back into action on Election Day to make certain there’s no voter intimidation at the polls.

Philadelphia is a prime target.

Former Navy Captain Benjamin Brink is leading the operation. “The nation saw the video of members of the Black Panthers in Philadelphia intimidating people trying to vote in 2008,” Brink told me when I interviewed him during my radio show on IQ 106.9. “We are going to try and make certain that nothing like that happens this year.”

Brink claims to have over a hundred former Army Rangers, Navy Seal, Delta Force, Green Berets and others who have volunteered for duty. The idea of Navy Seals and Black Panthers getting into it at a Philly polling site gives a whole new incentive for casting a ballot. “Our guys aren’t easily intimidated,” adds Brink.

Don’t let the bravado fool you. The mission, according to the Captain, is to observe and report, not to engage. “We are going to watch for intimidation, videotape it, if possible, and report it to the proper authorities.”

Benjamin Brink lives in the St. Louis area. He served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. It was the video of the Black Panthers and the battle over voter ID laws that inspired him to start his clean election movement called “Get Out the Vet.” The group also works to make certain those serving overseas get ballots and that those ballots are counted. “There are men and women fighting right now so that we have the right to vote in free and fair elections,” reminds Brink. “We are just doing our part to make certain democracy works the way it is supposed to.”

Although Philadelphia will get special attention, the special-ops veterans will also be overseeing polling sites in cities like Cleveland, Miami and Las Vegas—big cities in swing states that have had a history of reports of voter intimidation.

But isn’t sending big, strapping, steely-eyed men with buzz cuts and special-ops tattoos, at the very least, visually hypocritical? Don’t these guards against voter intimidation intimidate people themselves? “That is not our purpose,” assures Brink. “Voters showing up to the polls probably won’t even notice they are there. These men are trained to be ghosts.”

I doubt there will be any "proper authorities" in America again until a true American is elected!

God bless these brave patriots.

My family went to church last night to pray for the elections and I'm wearing red and will be praying all day.

We live in Nebraska and both my husband and I voted with early ballots. But passing one polling location, noted there were 20 people standing in line before work this morning. There is rarely a line. Wonderful sign of enthusiasm.

For one thing, we aren’t talking about Jar Heads - which the author seems to be describing. I think most folks would be hard-pressed to pick out a typical SEAL or Green Beret from a crowd, especially when he wishes to blend in.

So, if they already have an organization in place (’Get out the vote’) then where are they?

And this Black Panther in his little outfit and combat boots could intimidate somebody just by standing there and staring at voters.
Either get in line if you are a registered voter, or leave. I don’t think he should be allowed to loiter there.

Remember Athens, Tennessee (1946)! The citizens were fed up with the corrupt political machine that controlled McMinn County. Long story, short, the citizens restored democracy. Here's a brief snippet from http://constitution.org/mil/tn/batathen.htm:

V. The election was held on 1 August. To intimidate voters, Mansfield brought in some 200 armed "deputies". GI poll-watchers were beaten almost at once. At about 3 p.m., Tom Gillespie, an African-American voter, was told by a Sheriff's deputy, "'Nigger, you can't vote here today!!'". Despite being beaten, Gillespie persisted; the enraged deputy shot him. The gunshot drew a crowd. Rumors spread that Gillespie had been "shot in the back"; he later recovered. (C. Stephen Byrum, The Battle of Athens; Paidia Productions, Chattanooga TN, 1987; pp. 155-57).

Other deputies detained ex-GI poll-watchers in a polling place, as that made the ballot count "public". A crowd gathered. Sheriff Mansfield told his deputies to disperse the crowd. When the two ex-GIs smashed a big window and escaped, the crowd surged forward. "The deputies, with guns drawn, formed a tight half-circle around the front of the polling place. One deputy, "his gun raised high ...shouted: 'You sons-of-bitches cross this street and I'll kill you!'" (Byrum, p. 165).

Mansfield took the ballot boxes to the jail for counting. The deputies seemed to fear immediate attack, by the "people who had just liberated Europe and the South Pacific from two of the most powerful war machines in human history." (Byrum, pp. 168-69).

Short of firearms and ammunition, the GIs scoured the county to find them. By borrowing keys to the National Guard and State Guard Armories, they got three M-1 rifles, five .45 semi-automatic pistols, and 24 British Enfield rifles. The armories were nearly empty after the war's end.

By eight p.m., a group of GIs and "local boys" headed for the jail to get the ballot boxes. They occupied high ground facing the jail but left the back door unguarded to give the jail's defenders an easy way out.

VI. The Battle of Athens

Three GIs - alerting passersby to danger - were fired on from the jail. Two GIs were wounded. Other GIs returned fire. Those inside the jail mainly used pistols; they also had a "tommy gun" (a .45 caliber Thompson sub-machine gun).

Firing subsided after 30 minutes: ammunition ran low and night had fallen. Thick brick walls shielded those inside the jail. Absent radios, the GIs' rifle fire was un-coordinated. "From the hillside, fire rose and fell in disorganized cascades. More than anything else, people were simply 'shooting at the jail'." (Byrum, p. 189).

Several who ventured into "no man's land", the street in front of the jail, were wounded. One man inside the jail was badly hurt; he recovered. Most sheriff's deputies wanted to hunker down and await rescue. Governor McCord mobilized the State Guard, perhaps to scare the GIs into withdrawing. The State Guard never went to Athens. McCord may have feared that Guard units filled with ex-GIs might not fire on other ex-GIs.

At about 2 a.m. on 2 August, the GIs forced the issue. Men from Meigs county threw dynamite sticks and damaged the jail's porch. The panicked deputies surrendered. GIs quickly secured the building. Paul Cantrell faded into the night, almost having been shot by a GI who knew him, but whose .45 pistol had jammed. Mansfield's deputies were kept overnight in jail for their own safety. Calm soon returned: the GIs posted guards. The rifles borrowed from the armory were cleaned and returned before sun-up.

This, boys and girls, is the reason we have the 2nd Amendment.

Called the governor. Even if the NBP guy has not breaking any laws, I suggested that governoer post a state police officer at that location to offset any intimidation the elderly might feel. Even though the NBP this year is not holding a visible weapon, people will remember the clubs that were held last election. Woman answering phone said she would pass suggestion on to the governor, but said it probably was a local issue. She gave me Mayor Michael Nutter’s phone number - 215-686-8686. I called and asked the woman who answered if mayor could post a local cop at the polling place of concern. She said she would pass it on to the mayor.

Um, if they can gather a gaggle they might think they could take him out ... but I assure you, less than six or seven and it just intensifies the workout a little. But one word of caution to the panther kitties, if you stretch the odds, you might force the Seal to quickly terminate a few, just to balance the odds on the remaining half-dozen.

General Idea: Say, Anyone tried an infiltration technique, such as call an NBPP office somewhere, (perhaps Philly in the belly of the beast), imitate an African American voice (or a Black conservative doing this is fine), and finding out exactly from them in their own words what precisely they are doing today and what their intent is on the polling premises, and if they can be joined or assisted? Find out from their own words what they are planning, they could very well become boastful and slip and say something that will hoist them on their own petard. Check the state you call in regarding restrictions on recording telephone conversations. Again, I say call the New Black Panther Party directly about this one. Someone do it (caller ID from Japan would make the call suspect from here).

Go SEALs! But wait — where are the esteemed U.N. observers? Isn’t this exactly the sort of thing they should be documenting and doing something about?

Where are the TV cameras and news reporters? Imagine the howls from the tribe of media-controllers if the skin colors were reversed — lead story, evening news; page one, above the fold. Election invalidated, Romney forfeits, white areas burned to the ground by imported ghetto rioters.

The U.N. observers are probably hanging out in some lily-white suburb just waiting for some racist, melanin-enhanced Bonzo voter to claim that he wasn’t treated with kid gloves.

Bray--thanks again for all your prayers and encouraging words. Woke up this AM doing what my dear Oswald Chambers call a sin--FRETTING--BIG TIME!

So--feeling like a weak old ewe and frightened little lamb all mixed up in one, I went to my Shepherd--opened my Bible and read John 14:1

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me."

Nothing like a good dose of "Thy Strong Word" to calm a "bleating" heart!

Now, here on FR with NO TROUBLE--yet--am enjoying so much a sense of "fellowship" with all you fellow FReepers.

God bless you all--especially JimRob--and God Bless the USA!

Just a tall skinny black guy with Jamaican-style dreadlocks at my polling place. Seemed very out of place. Not dressed in NBP garb, did not say anything to me or to anyone while I was there. I presumed he was waiting for his chance to pounce when the first black voter without ID showed up. Was he UN? Who knows?
