Interestingly, the “father” of the perps actually reported to the media that his progeny had been questioned by the police several days before they were arrested. At the time it was presented as a “cooperative neighbor” story, so the media didn’t have any qualms about identifying his two kids by name. That’s why everyone knew them by name after they were arrested — even though the media by that time had gone into “don’t identify juveniles accused of crimes by name” mode.
