Completely inexcusable. This was perfidy of the worst kind: telling forces in a position to come to the immediate aid of persons under fire to “stand down” - twice! AND a SO troop lasing the artillery target and denied a Spectre run.

Why was security drawn-down in advance, and the military was not allowed to do a rescue? Hmmmm.. I have no doubts this was a planned hostage-taking gone bad and that 0bama adhered to the 'Anti-Islam video' cover story afterwards (for some reason).
There was someone on the annex roof with a laser to help guide help to them.
They captured 3 Libyan fighters at the annex and had to turn them over.
There were 2 drones over the consulate/annex. One replaced another.
State Dept, White House Situation Room, State Department — those with clearance could watch it all in real time.
3 requests were turned down.
After 1st request (they heard shots at consulate) they were told to stand down, so they waited at the annex for about 1 hour.
After 2nd request denied (again told to stand down) they disobeyed that order and made their way to the consulate and brought back survivors to the annex (took about 1:20).
As soon as they returned to the annex that building started taking mortar fire.
They called again for help.
