If you want American atrocities read about “Bleeding Kansas”. Kansas had a internal civil war with horrible atrocities. The South during the Revolution Tory militia vs Patriot militia. Both sides of the Indian wars, the Indians had an excuse they were stone age primitives, Europeans and us not so much.

Indian POWs were generally treated pretty well, captives of Indians weren’t as lucky.

A captive of Indians if he was taken alive, was likely to serve as the Indian town’s entertainment for a few days as the women and children, mothers and fathers all watched the show put on by their leadership.

These Indian tortures weren’t atrocities that occasionally happened during the heat of battle, by renegade civilians, these were the formal entertainment of the communities, conducted formally and as a part of their culture, and for public consumption and training purposes for everyone, including the children.
