Dr Mark Durie: Australia is doing better than many. There are a couple of factors, we have controlled our immigration much more than we might have. The points system for immigrants has made it quite hard for Muslims to come into the country. Because they come from certain circumstances and backgrounds, which makes it harder for them to meet those criteria. If you look at the immigration of Muslims in the past decade. There are more Hindu Indians coming from South-East Asia, England and other places. So we have managed to control immigration indirectly. Whether it was intentional is an interesting question but that's the way it has happened. But there is also a culture in Australia, which I think where by journalists and commentators are willing to acknowledge, that Islam is a factor in some people's bad behaviours. So you'll see a report in the newspaper on someone being inspired by fatwa's or if a Muslim has done this, they will use the word "Muslim" because they have done it out of a religious worldview. I think seven or eight years ago in Australia, it would have been quite hard for that type of reporting to happen.

In the US the label “tolerance” has became an excuse for the lack of societal standards of behavior and decency.
Shouldn't thinking people be tolerant of ALL people no matter the circumstance? Who are we to judge a rapist or murderer?
“Being intolerant is the new heresy.”
Liberals believe in tolerance for me but not for thee. They are intolerant to all that disagree with them.
