MISSOURI SEC OF STATE WEBSITE

To help clear up some of the confusion, I spoke this morning with the elections division of the sec of state office in Missouri.

Regarding the "sore loser law" - no candidate who lost in the primary may run a write-in campaign. Neither John Brunner nor Sarah Steelman could mount a write-in campaign.

Regarding replacing Todd Akin if he withdraws - the Republican Central Committee will choose the replacement. That replacement can be someone who lost in the primary. So Steelman or Brunner could still end up as the candidate. Akin would have to withdraw and get a court order by Sept. 25.

My understanding is the court order is “freely given”, meaning it's little more than a formality...any additional info on that?

I understand the part about the 2 who lost not being a write-in candidate, but can they run as third party candidates?

Thanks for the research, DFU.

My take: Yes, there is a double standard but ... there is a double standard, live with it. There is no gain in railing against that fact. Yesterday a salesman caller to Limbaugh said it well : Akin is an engineer and he only sees black and white; Akin has no understanding of the emotional impact of his gaffe.
