Yes. You can be the BEST conservative in the world, but if you’re an idiot, you’re not helping your cause in any form or fashion. Simply believing in conservative principles is NEVER enough, you need to be able to intelligently and eloquently defend those principles.

Coming out and saying “I love God, I love this country, I hate abortion, I hate taxes and I love the military” shouldn’t be enough to qualify a conservative for office.

We are talking about a sitting congressman impacting the most critical election in the last 100 years.

Not debating some research paper.

Can you put that into words that make sense?

Rand Paul should have asked him to “step off”.

Misused word? Claire, is that you? He suggested that a woman’s body will magically reject pregnancy due to rape. Now he’s claiming not to be a Dr? Then he shouldn’t have been shooting his mouth off. Not only will he cost the GOP this seat, and possibly the Senate, he could conceivably cost Romney the state which makes the math much harder.

No I am not Claire. His suggestion that a womans body would magically deal with the zygote, should fertilization occur, he says was medically in error. And it is a wrong concept.

If you think back to the case Roe v.Wade the alledged victim of rape, at a later date, said she made it up. But, there was a pregnancy. Was that a "legitimate" rape. That word is inartful and mispoken. Who among us has not misspoken? This frenzy around a misspoken word is not unlike the "potato" remark of Dan Quayle. It turned out that there were two proper ways to spell the word,....but not until political correctness took its toll.

Now all of the gunslingers are shooting at Akins feet, saying, "Dance Cowboy, Dance". Well, we shall see.

Maybe Cheney can offer to go “hunting” with him.

He won the primary. He played by the rules. He said something inartful. He gets to ‘play the game’.

He sounds like a psychotic deranged lunatic.

Is it too late for the RNC to have him committed?

I vote this for post of the day.

Bingo.

Every moment he stays to fight on “principle” - he is assisting Obamacare

Then don’t bring it up.

We are not debating the legitimacy of the report, but that he was going on the latest info he had.

I do think it’s an uproar over nothing, but it’s a very damaging situation. I don’t know if he can survive it, but I understand why he wants to try.

While he is "trying" to survive, the rest of the party becomes the laughing stock of the world and everything we have all worked for goes right down the drain. I agree with the guy that says this guy is a Democratic plant. Only a Democrat could be this damn dumb.

Bingo.

This freak is not principled in the least bit since his so called “principles” give us claire and obama again, which is a far greater danger.

Where have we heard these so called “principled” people before?

Yep- I see he is willing to give the Senate to the liberals..to stand on his principles. Those aren’t principles he’s standing on- they’re DELUSIONS.

I heard one of his supporters in MO saying he is a supporter of the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax would be the biggest transfer of power from DC back to the people in this country’s history. That’s why the establishment wants him out, so that they can replace him with one of their guys, to keep up the status quo. I’m barely scraping by, but I’m going to send him some money.

Don't vote for him if you feel that way. Perhaps McCaskel is your senator to choose. But that has nothing to do with the liberal seizure of the word 'legitimate' and run with it. That is their word...like choice, investment (instead of taxation).

Sadly being crazy isn't a disqualification for office. Akin would still be on the ballot.

My usual rule of thumb is that positions based mostly or entirely on principle are unconvincing, because nobody is that principled.

“I’ve noticed that some of his most vocal supporters on FR seem to have a similar blind spot”

You aren’t the only one who has noticed.

I don’t know if you would call me a “fundamentalist”
I am a catholic prolifer.
But I’m also female, and have more than a passing knowledge of conception, pregnancy, and birth.

This guy is poison.

Hey, you know what,..you are right. Better yet why don’t we just drop all differentiation between the liberal and conservative. We will let the liberals define what is acceptible and right and we will go with that. Yes, I am sure that is the answer to our differences. We can all become proaborts, pro-Big Government, and will only utter the words approved by the Democrats. That will fix all consternation. Fixed it!
