"There's nothing called Palestine"

Well, yeah, there is. It's a place not a country.

Just like there isn't a state called "The Midwest"
You are wrong, Milagros is correct. There never was a place or a region called Palestine. It received it's current name by the Roma Emperor Hadrian.

After the second Jewish revolt under Bar Cochba (A.D. 132-135) The Roman emperor Hadrian renamed the land of Israel and Judea as Palastina ('Palestine') after the ancient enemies of the Jews - the Philistines. Because of his hatred of the Jews, it was meant to be an insult to dishonor them and remove their history. Hadrian built Aelia Capitolina, in the area of the destroyed Temple and dedicated it to Jupiter-Zeus demonstrating the supremacy of the Roman deities in Judea. He then forbid the Jews from entering.

Yes there is:

The Roman emperor Hadrian renamed the land of Israel and Judea as Palastina ('Palestine')

Well there you go. You just described it to a "T". I'd say 132 AD was a historic enough reference. Who do you think gets to name things, just the UN, The British Empire?

the Philistines

(not to be confused with "The Phillipines")
