Joe lost his job and only received a portion of the pension he had earned. Luckily, Joe found a new job as a school custodian, but it paid one-third of his previous salary and his wife was no longer covered by his health insurance plan.

I am confused. Are you defending the ad or just giving us the facts?

that was from Obama’s website.

Below is from democracynow.org, Jan. 2012 interview.

This man made a choice not to buy insurance for his wife.

JOE SOPTIC: The 401(k), well, I don’t think our 401(k) was affected. Our retirement was affected. When they went—when we had the—when we got the bankruptcy deal, I lost $400 off of my retirement, because the pension fund was underfunded.

AMY GOODMAN: Every month.

JOE SOPTIC: Yes, every month.

AMY GOODMAN: You lost $400. And what happened to your family?

JOE SOPTIC: Yeah. Well, basically, what happened, my wife had to quit working, and we didn’t have any health insurance on her. I went to work for a suburban school district, so I had health insurance, but I had to start out at substantially less money. I went from about $59,000 a year down to $24,800 a year. And I couldn’t afford health insurance on her. And she became ill, and we discovered that she had cancer. And, you know, we had no health insurance. So, the only recourse that I had was we took her to a county hospital. And unfortunately, she passed away from the cancer. And when she did, I had this big bill. And the only way that—the county had agreed that they would cover the bill, but I had to liquidate all of my 401(k)s. So I lost my 401(k)s.

I do not know, but in this interview he says he lost $238.00, not $400.00.

When Ranae started losing weight, “I tried to get her to the doctor and she wouldn’t go,” Soptic said. She ended up in the county hospital with pneumonia, where doctors discovered her advanced lung cancer. She died two weeks later.

Soptic was left with nearly $30,000 in medical bills. He drained a $12,000 savings account and the hospital wrote off the balance.

That’s because Ingtar sent me a clown car BS FReepmail how Romney will appoint liberal judges and a moderate crap. I suppose because it’s too embarrassing to post in the open.

Isn't it amazing that EVERY story that this administration uses to try to prove a point has some sordid, hidden story behind the story? What continued to bug me was why she left her job. Well:

Fact-Checking is Not Enough

By the evening the debunking had gone further. CNN contacted Soptic himself for comment, and the former steelworker acknowledged that his wife had actually continued to have insurance of her own after he was laid off, and only lost her coverage more than a year later, when she left her own job because of an injury. What the ad had portrayed as cause-and-effect — Romney fired, Ranae Soptic died — was a tenuous-to-nonexistent connection.

I’ve heard that after the steel plant closed, his wife was still employed and DID have health insurance.

Maybe it’s just the fact that I’m in Pittsburgh and we have a sports talk station that is broadcasting live from every waking hour at Steelers Training Camp. What are they having for breakfast? How long are the cleats Ben is wearing today? Who is third on the depth chart for the kick-off team? Yada yada yada.

LOL... I feel your pain. ;-)

We live in Connecticut - halfway between Boston and New York. The two big sports radio staions - WEEI (Boston) and WFAN (NYC) - are already ramped up for football. WEEI especially, as our Boston Red Sox have pretty much turned into the Dead Sox, right from the start of this sorry baseball season. So New England Patriots football chatter is quickly overtaking baseball analysis already. Nobody wants to analyze why the Dead Sox lost yet another game, I guess...
