Where did he get the money for this trip? The "poor" Obama clan certainly did a lot of international airline travel back when it was prohibitively expensive and typically utilized by the wealthy.

If your mother was an American living in Indonesia, she probably has money for plane tickets. Ditto if your grandmother was a bank VP.
Flying to Kenya in 1961 would have been expensive and not so easy, but going to Hawaii and on to Indonesia and Pakistan would have been easier to do twenty years later.
It's not like everybody did it, but it's not the biggest mystery about Obama by any means.
