I thought Sikhs only carried knives I think that there's a fair amount of historical animosity between Sikhs and Hindus.Don't know where,if anywhere, moslems might fit into that mosaic.

Muslims hate Sikhs (who are a syncretist group).
However, unless this guy was a Chechen or something, it sounds to me like another white nutcase who saw them wearing turbans and thought they were Muslims. Remember a Sikh was killed and others were beaten after 9/11.
I don’t know why, because Muslims generally don’t wear anything that looks remotely like a Sikh turban.

Sikhs were a community formed as a military response against Muslim rule in India and all the Sikh founders were / are Hindus, and Sikhs defended Hindu interests when they were threatened. Sikhism was recognized as a separate religion only recently.
A large proportion of the Indian military is lead by Sikhs.
The animosity you are referring to relates to a Pakistan-funded separatist movement which was quelled by Sikhs themselves.

A witness told officers the shooter was a white male, with a heavy build, bald head and wearing a sleeveless T-shirt, Oak Creek Patch reported.
A product of our educational system that so focuses on superficial similarities that he can't distinguish between Sikhs and Muslim?

Sikhism comes out of the Hindu tradition. Sikhism is to Hinduism what, from a secularist religious evolutionary point of view, Christianity was to Judaism, what Mormonism is to Christianity, and what Islam was to both Christianity and Judaism.
