OLYMPIA, Washington, July 31, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The fight for traditional marriage in Washington state is heating up with the announcement that billionaire Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com, and his wife, MacKenzie, have pledged $2.5 million to homosexual lobbyists. The donation comes after opponents of the state’s new gay marriage law stopped the legislation in its tracks by collecting and filing over 240,000 signatures in support of a referendum on the November ballot.
The contribution makes the Amazon couple the largest financial backer of homosexual “rights” in the state, according to the NY Times, far outstripping the $100k donation by Bill Gates and Steven A. Ballmer of Microsoft.
Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington State, a Democrat, signed the homosexual marriage bill into law in February, making Washington the seventh U.S. state to redefine marriage, in addition to the District of Columbia.
The bill was expected to take effect in June, however, Preserve Marriage Washington gathered and filed 247,331 signatures supporting a referendum, far more than the required 120,577.
Joseph Backholm, Chairman of Preserve Marriage Washington, said the large numbers that supported the referendum initiative show that public opinion is on the side of traditional marriage.
“Despite attempts by some to skew what we really think, support for preserving marriage remains strong across our great state,” Backholm said, adding that the homosexualist agenda “is not about equality or fairness; same-sex couples already have the same legal rights as married couples. Our opponents goals are to make marriage genderless, to de-emphasize the unique roles of mothers and fathers, and to completely remake the institution of marriage.”
Backholm pointed out that every time the question of same-sex “marriage” has been brought before voters, the people have voted to protect traditional marriage.
“Thirty-two States have voted in favour of traditional marriage; 0 States have voted in favour of “gay marriage,” Backholm observed.
“For thousands of years, marriage between one man and one woman has proven to be the cornerstone of our society. Thirty-two other states have already voted to preserve marriageNovember 6 is our opportunity to do the same.

Ditto! I bit my tongue and then unsubscribed from Amazon. I plan to email Bezos and suggest you do the same.
I almost placed an order with amazon today. Thanks FR.
Going to Walmart instead.
Use Amazon as a price shopping tool, then purchase elsewhere.
Did both... I was an early Amazon user...
Enough Queers in my face... My tolerance has gone to zero...
Now off to Chick-Fil-A...
Great. Another business to boycott. I order a ton of stuff off Amazon. They can kiss my business good bye. They are only hurting themselves by turning into a gay mafia.
I had been a fairly strong proponent of Amazon - but when I heard what Bezos did, I sent an e-mail to Amazon telling them that my business with them was over. I cancelled my Amazon Prime renewal and now I’ll get something else to replace my Kindle. This a battle for the future of our country and Amazon just picked the wrong side.
Sent them an email, I will confer with my wife tonight and wait for a response from Amazon before canceling... give them a chance to correct their action... give um 24 hours...
Ditto! Just canceled my account with Amazon and sent Bezos an email. Suggest you do the same.
I love Amazon, too. What’s a person to do?
STOP USING AMAZON.
Great idea. And as for books, buy second-hand from other vendors, always listed at Amazon.
They should give a matching amount to a pro-family group. I'm sure Chik-fil-A could give them some suggestions.
I too am fed up with the gay agenda being shoved in my face 24/7. Pushing gay literature is one thing, but actively promoting the "gay marriage" agenda with a gigantic donation is quite another. I'll be redirecting my (formerly significant) business with Amazon elsewhere from now on. Ditto Office Depot and lady gaga.
Both are under attack. Part of our culture, basics and glue of our freedoms.
Ditto. Just canceled my Amazon account and sent an email message to Jeff Bezos. Suggest you do the same. Christmas looms on the horizon. You have time to look around and find an alternate supplier for your purchases.
I have spent a lot via Amazon and they have done several things in the past but I am seriously going to look at http://www.overstock.com/ and http://www.buy.com/ from now on along with letting Amazon know why I will be using other means...
Anyway, Microsoft is just the OS so one could run linux if they really wanted to be "pure".
I have shopped Amazon for years. Would appreciate learning of an alternative if anyone has a site to replace it.
If anyone knows of an internet company as GREAT as Amazon I would sure like to know about it. Oh, as long as the owner doesn’t promote gay or liberal causes...</sheez >
