I lack the nostalgia that many Republicans now exhibit for the Clinton years. ....

People keep saying "Clinton balanced the budget back then" -- what, and Gramm-Rudman-Hollings was chopped liver? As I recall it, Clinton was floating around the White House with his lip pushed out, whining that he had to cater to the bond market instead of spending us blind like Obama and Bush have done. Clinton wanted to blitz the Treasury -- but it was Congress that held his feet to the fire! Doesn't anybody remember this stuff?

Obamaland believes that Clinton can serve as living proof that Washington can levy a 39.6 percent income tax rate on top earners without weakening the economy. But as the recovery teeters, Clinton certainly doesn't seem to think so.

It's not "just" 39.6%--you've got to add in the extra 3.8% for Obamacare, and increased taxes for the self-employed. Also, state fees (including sales taxes and property taxes) are higher as more mandates are pushed onto the states.
