Cheney: Palin pick in ’08 “a mistake”
Hot Air ^ | JULY 29, 2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 07/29/2012 9:49:25 AM PDT by RobinMasters

As we wait for Mitt Romney to pick his running mate in the next few weeks, the last successful GOP running mate has been privately advising the current GOP nominee and the head of his VP search committee, Beth Myers. Cheney believes that the #2 slot has to be filled with someone ready to take over the top job on Day 1 — and that John McCain flunked that test in 2008. In an interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, Cheney called the selection of Sarah Palin “a mistake”:

Mr. Cheney, if Palin was a mistake, what do you call Joe Biden?

Another reason why Nov. 6th will be my last GOP vote.

On November 7th we lay the groundwork for 2014 and 2016 with a new conservative party.

The GOP is a shadow of its former self, and part of the overall problem in DC.

Palin was good for at least 10 million votes.

Quite frankly, McCain was the “mistake” in 2008.

And Palin would have helped win it for the GOP if she was not muzzled and if Johnnie Boy didn;t take a dive for his Commie overlords.

Plus Palin had more executove experience than McCain, Obama, and Biden COMBINED!!!!!!

And didn’t go to Vietnam, because he “had more important things to do”.

I completely disagree with Cheney on Palin and other issues BUT he didn't go to Vietnam because he was married with 2 kids --Do you really think the draft board would accept " I had more important things to do as a reason " not to draft him ?

I could never understand the LOVE for Cheney some FReepers have.

He’s always been a fake tough guy...always sending others to do his dirty work.

And he’s always been an NWO elitist just like the scum Bush family.

He and his dyke daughter need to get lost.

Sarah Palin is a true American patriot and Dick the dick Cheeny is just another elite one worlder spewing the elite's propaganda. Denouncing Sarah Palin and other good American patriots (Michelle Bachman) is the elite's under handed effort to denounce the Tea Party patriot movement.

He started having heart trouble in his early 30s.

Most likely they'd caught that problem at a pre-induction physical and you'd never seen him again ~ not even for a deferment.

Frankly, I hated it when a couple of the inductees who came in when I did just flopped over dead out running around the track in the morning before breakfast. That sort of thing is just a big downer.

No, I didn't trip over their bodies ~ but others did.

OK. I checked it out. Cheney says he likes Gov Palin but she lacked the qualification to step right into the presidency by only having served 2 years as Governor.

Says it was a “mistake”. No honor there Dick. ABC was orgasmic over retrieving that sound bite. Video here:

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/dick-cheney-picking-sarah-palin-for-vp-was-a-mistake/

This is AFTER his heart transplant (gave him a Lib heart?). Also he does NOT say weather Sarah made them lose. He does not comment on pathetic paucity of Obama’s “experience”

“Do ANY of you people really need any more evidence that the Romney forced nomination is part of a grand GOP elite plan to marginalize the Tea Party?”

What plan?

Romney was beaten in SC and falling behind in Florida.

But all he had to do was run a couple of negative ads against Newt, and watch as the idiots on our side scattered like beat dogs. Which is what we do all the time.

No elite plan at all. Just knowing how full of it and weak-minded our side gets sometimes.

It wasn't a couple of ads. He saturated the TV radio and papers with untrue ads about Newt

Unfortunately he had the $$$$ and organization to be able to do this and the average GOP primary voter isn't very well informed and bought into the lies

The geniuses on FOX news did NOTHING to condemn those ads and Newt did not have the time or $$$$ to combat them

This overrated clown has given me some perspective.

I am not a Romney fan but i despise Obama. In recent weeks, i’ve come to begrudgingly accept the reality that i either vote for Romney or Obama. I’ve seen jim Robs arguments against Romney, and sadly thought he was mistaken.
I thought the GOPe would at least show some basic respect to conservatives/TEA. That i should go with the lesser of two evils. Now i’m agreeing with Jerry Garcia. “The lesser of two evils is still evil”.

This statement by Cheney about Sarah, and Romneys behavior towards Sarah vis-a-vis the convention is an open warning to us. This is pure GOPe resurgent. They will not show the slightest respect to us after a victory.
They demand our vote as a devine right.

I am now back with Jim Rob in his assessment of this election. Short of a massive ass kissing, short of the GOPe kissing Sarahs ring, i sit it out or go third. The main goal in this election is damaging the GOPe brand all we can and set our sights on 2016.

FU Cheney, you were always a low life, and still are. But i appreciate you reminding me that it was Romney operatives that mounted a non stop effort to destroy Sarah.

GOPe and the Bushie wing must end,,, hard. A Romney loss might finally allow our Conservative to arise. We may just need to endure.

Bush/Cheney was a big mistake.

Between the two of them, they nearly destroyed the conservative coalition Reagan built and blazed the trail for the nightmare we endure today.

And Cheney is arguably the only politician alive more radioactive than GW Bush. Romney is a fool if he takes counsel from either of them.

As much as I appreciate Cheney and his strengths he is wrong and IMO he was a poor choice for VP. Republicans never pick strong candidates for VP. They should pick some young enough to be groomed to run for president after 4-8 years.

From that perspective Cheney was a poor pick.

It’s also why they hated Sarah. She didn’t roll over and tow the party line and they have crucified her for that.

Dick Cheney is WRONG!

Did Palin help McCain beat Obama?

Cheney is right to point out Palin had only been a governor two years and, well, look at the fall out: she lost her governorship, ended up with huge legal bills, her family was dragged through the mud and her political career is shot because she accepted McCain's offer.

By most objective criteria, her being McCain's running mate was a "mistake."

Of course, too many swept up in a cult-of-personality will see this as an attack on Palin when it underscores the importance of NOT picking someone just starting off, who isn't well-established.

This is why Rubio and some other 'favorites' here are awful choices for Romney. It's not like they're the next Abe Lincoln.

Had McCain not picked Sarah Palin, the GOP’s conservative base would have gone fishing on election day or voted third party. As a result, McCain would have been blown out, and he would have probably taken more legislators down with him than he did. Then in addition to claiming a solid mandate, Obama would have had a super-duper majority in the House and Senate and would have gotten his entire agenda passed.

He dissed Sarah Palin when he didn't have to and that's all she wrote...

...he is too much a career political animal NOT to know what he has done...

...he has turned to the dark side and against the TEA Party and his saying he “likes” Palin is about as sincere as Jim DeMint calling Chuck Schummer “my friend” as they all call each other in the US Senate.

Fact is, like all GOP-e pooh bahs, Cheney hates all conservatives the RINO elite cannot control.

When Cheney became eligible for the draft, during the Vietnam War, he applied for and received five draft deferments. In 1989, The Washington Post writer George C. Wilson interviewed Cheney as the next Secretary of Defense; when asked about his deferments, Cheney reportedly said, “I had other priorities in the ‘60s than military service.”

Good question. My first thought was that it was beneath him. Maybe, though, it was a subtle non-recommendation of one or more of Romney’s VP possibilities.

No, i do not think they would accept it. “had more important things to do”. Was his reason for scrambling for 5 deferrments, only the last of which did he have a kid.

But this puts him in good company, Mitt sat out the war in France as a missionary.
Screw the GOPe. That Chickenhawk label never fit so well.
Cheney is a classic Chickenhawk. If they think the way to win the election is to give the finger to Sarah, they lost me.

Sarah Palin is sitting on between 18 and 20 years executive experience. This is more than almost any other President we have ever had.
Palin’s record includes a term on the Wasilla Council, two terms as Wasilla, AK Mayor, a stint as Chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and gas Conservation Commission (which she left to almost single-handily take down the corrupt GOP Establishment in Alaska). She served as president of the Alaska mayors association and as chairman of the Republican governors. As governor she accomplished more in two years than most do in eight years. Alaska has the largest national guard and they are always on active duty with the governor briefed daily.
The Governorship of Alaska, as defined by the Alaska state Constitution, is the most powerful in the nation. This has left Sarah Palin uniquely qualified to go from being the most powerful Governor in the nation to being the most powerful national leader in the world.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it...DICK!

Regardless, the Left is so publicly enjoying Cheney's stupidy and the conservatives are so seriously outraged he will have to backpedal and soon.

Bet Romney has writers working right now on Dick Cheney's “heartfelt” apology to Sarah Palin that he will deliver before Rush Limbaugh is on the air tomorrow.

I'm amazed at how many people are putting their personal feelings about Palin over the critical importance of winning in November.

It's pathetic. There, I said it.

She didn't run for the nomination, polling universally shows she is a liability with the general electorate.

In 2012, she has made it her job to work on down-ballot races and that's precisely where she's needed most.

She gets it, why can't you all?
