Cheney: Palin pick in ’08 “a mistake”
Hot Air ^ | JULY 29, 2012 | Ed Morrissey

As we wait for Mitt Romney to pick his running mate in the next few weeks, the last successful GOP running mate has been privately advising the current GOP nominee and the head of his VP search committee, Beth Myers. Cheney believes that the #2 slot has to be filled with someone ready to take over the top job on Day 1 — and that John McCain flunked that test in 2008. In an interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, Cheney called the selection of Sarah Palin “a mistake”:

Politically I am an American first, Tea Party second, Republican third. American trumps all.

The elite plan included pressuring Rush to go negative on Newt.

But all he had to do was run a couple of negative ads against Newt, and watch as the idiots on our side scattered like beat dogs.

It wasn't a couple of ads. He saturated the TV radio and papers with untrue ads about Newt

Unfortunately he had the $$$$ and organization to be able to do this and the average GOP primary voter isn't very well informed and bought into the lies

The geniuses on FOX news did NOTHING to condemn those ads and Newt did not have the time or $$$$ to combat them

Can’t argue with that. Bush never saw a spending bill he didn’t like to sign ASP.

This overrated clown has given me some perspective.

I am not a Romney fan but i despise Obama. In recent weeks, i’ve come to begrudgingly accept the reality that i either vote for Romney or Obama. I’ve seen jim Robs arguments against Romney, and sadly thought he was mistaken.
I thought the GOPe would at least show some basic respect to conservatives/TEA. That i should go with the lesser of two evils. Now i’m agreeing with Jerry Garcia. “The lesser of two evils is still evil”.

This statement by Cheney about Sarah, and Romneys behavior towards Sarah vis-a-vis the convention is an open warning to us. This is pure GOPe resurgent. They will not show the slightest respect to us after a victory.
They demand our vote as a devine right.

I am now back with Jim Rob in his assessment of this election. Short of a massive ass kissing, short of the GOPe kissing Sarahs ring, i sit it out or go third. The main goal in this election is damaging the GOPe brand all we can and set our sights on 2016.

Hes scared of her because shes a Conservative AND a woman and has the mascaline gumption he lacks and hes having his peons attack her again...

As Sarah herself said...”Insecure men are afraid of strong women”

FU Cheney, you were always a low life, and still are. But i appreciate you reminding me that it was Romney operatives that mounted a non stop effort to destroy Sarah.

GOPe and the Bushie wing must end,,, hard. A Romney loss might finally allow our Conservative to arise. We may just need to endure.

Bush/Cheney was a big mistake.

Between the two of them, they nearly destroyed the conservative coalition Reagan built and blazed the trail for the nightmare we endure today.

And Cheney is arguably the only politician alive more radioactive than GW Bush. Romney is a fool if he takes counsel from either of them.

As much as I appreciate Cheney and his strengths he is wrong and IMO he was a poor choice for VP. Republicans never pick strong candidates for VP. They should pick some young enough to be groomed to run for president after 4-8 years.

From that perspective Cheney was a poor pick.

It’s also why they hated Sarah. She didn’t roll over and tow the party line and they have crucified her for that.

Dick Cheney is WRONG!

Did Palin help McCain beat Obama?

Cheney is right to point out Palin had only been a governor two years and, well, look at the fall out: she lost her governorship, ended up with huge legal bills, her family was dragged through the mud and her political career is shot because she accepted McCain's offer.

By most objective criteria, her being McCain's running mate was a "mistake."

Of course, too many swept up in a cult-of-personality will see this as an attack on Palin when it underscores the importance of NOT picking someone just starting off, who isn't well-established.

This is why Rubio and some other 'favorites' here are awful choices for Romney. It's not like they're the next Abe Lincoln.

Had McCain not picked Sarah Palin, the GOP’s conservative base would have gone fishing on election day or voted third party. As a result, McCain would have been blown out, and he would have probably taken more legislators down with him than he did. Then in addition to claiming a solid mandate, Obama would have had a super-duper majority in the House and Senate and would have gotten his entire agenda passed.

He dissed Sarah Palin when he didn't have to and that's all she wrote...

...he is too much a career political animal NOT to know what he has done...

...he has turned to the dark side and against the TEA Party and his saying he “likes” Palin is about as sincere as Jim DeMint calling Chuck Schummer “my friend” as they all call each other in the US Senate.

Fact is, like all GOP-e pooh bahs, Cheney hates all conservatives the RINO elite cannot control.
