When did I hit my limit? I think it was when Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel got involved, throwing his muscle--- Im talking about raw political knuckle sandwich --- into the face of a private businessman explicitly because he espoused Christian values. But heres the back-story.
Dan Cathy, the CEO of the Chick-Fil-A restaurant, was explaining his business philosophy to the Baptist Press.
He said that Chick-Fil-A is not an exclusively "Christian" company, but they try to run it in a Christian manner: they close on Sundays, for instance, so all their employees can go to church and/or spend time with their families.
Explaining pro-family, he said they treat gay people with respect, as customers and employees. But as far as he and his kin are concerned, theyre in favor of the Biblical definition of marriage; they are all still married to their first wives and proud of that.
Well, thats when the chick hit the fan.
Gay activist groups: THATS HATE SPEECH! BOYCOTT CHICK-FIL-A!
Pro-family groups: WE SUPPORT CHICK-FIL-A! COUNTER-BOYCOTT!
Chicken-consumption-wise, the Christians probably way out-weigh the LGBTQQIs in sheer tonnage, so I expected an easy win for Chick-Fil-A. I said to myself, Self (I said), Next time youre near a Chick-Fil-A, treat yourself to a Spicy Chicken Deluxe and a Peach Milkshake. The finger-lickin-Christian-chicken people would triumph, I had no doubt!
INCREDIBLY, THE POLITICIANS STARTED SWARMING. Elliot Spitzer --- --- Seriously??! Elliot Spitzer?!!--- the politician who spent $80,000 on the services of prostitutes when he was Attorney General and Governor of New York?? That Elliot Spitzer? --- said he and his pals would be boycotting Chick-Fil-A in order to show our commitment to the values we believe in.
And other politicos started squawking, not just with their views and values, but with outright Mafia-style muscle. Boston Mayor Tom Menino said he would block any Chick-Fil-As opening in Boston; Rahm Emanuel said the restaurant would be barred from expansion in his city because Chick-Fil-A values are not Chicago values. ( Chicago? Values? Seriously?)
Calling Tom Wolfe! Calling P.J. ORourke! Cluck, dudE! Where are the social satirists when you need them?
Theyre going to use the coercive power of the government to stop a restaurant chain, because the restaurant guy supports Biblical marriage.
Like I said, thats when I hit my limit.
Im not just buying a Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
So, Birthdays? Weddings? Pot-Lucks? And now you know what Im giving for Christmas this year.
And Milkshake!
Peach to People of Good Will.

Awesome post Mrs. Don-o!
dang..bet that is a ‘GEORGIA PEACH’ SHAKE..am going to try that one on Wed.
with nuggets and salad..
I know hubby...standard fare..grilled chicken sandwich/strawberry shake..
so for one afternoon we can just ‘screw’ the balanced food groups..wonder if I should call Michelle to see if we are allowed?????? maybe we’ll get taxed or fined!!! ya think?
Thanks for the idea, Mrs Don-o. I’ll order some gift cards too...only regret I have is that I can’t munch into one a those yummy sandwiches myself because WE DON”T HAVE ANY CHICK-FIL-A’s in the Milwaukee area.
Dang.
I was going to stop at Mickey D’s and get theirs today cuz y’all talking about how good they are is makin’ me want one..but then ..facepalm..what was I thinking? Forgot for a moment that it’s CFA and their pro life stance that I want to support.
Gotta get down to Racine(nearest CFA)...and soon!
“Im buying Chick-Fil-A Gift Cards.”
We are too, and we are getting on the Democrats’ website to say that instead of contributing to campaigns this year, we will be buying CFA gift cards for our grandkids birthdays in Aug. and Sept.
It’s OK to mess with a Dem’s mind because there is so little damage done.
This whole hullabaloo is asinine! I don't doubt for a minute that it is for pure political theater - the REAL kind - to stir up the culture wars. Watch, some doofus reporter will make it a question in the presidential debates. I'd love to see a bunch of citizens rise up in protest in Chicago and Boston complaining that they aren't allowed a Chick-Fil-A in their neighborhoods and then watch their mayors squirm.
LOL!!
I’m with you on the gift cards. Think about how nice it would be for some high-school students to have them, when they want to ask a friend to lunch? Or, college kids who would appreciate how fresh their food tastes compared to everything else they’re getting. I went online, and you can’t get the cards online, but I’ll be at my local CRA Wednesday, anyway. I even bought a Deluxe yesterday in Asheville!
Darlin', you knocked that one out of the park!
