“Even our founders, like John Adams meeting George III as ambassador to the UK, used such titles.”

That is when they addressed them personally. This is not the same. Speaking of them “here” as if they are our “royalty” is nonsense, especially in the here and now instead of dead people.

I call him Isaac Newton and it’s good enough. I also say “von Steuben” - and in fact his title was false. We also say “Lord Stirling” because the man insisted he was a lord by heritage and liked it as a sort of name and that’s what our forefathers got used to calling him. But calling him William Alexander is just as correct. These last became like regular “names” for those people.

At first it started bad. But the song is a great sing-a-long so, I guess he can be forgiven.

The guy is 70, after all. But dang, he needs to lighten up on the hair dye. We know your gray, Paul...it’s ok.

McCartney LOOKS bad.

Geesh, cut the hair. Then he might look sort of like a man - old man - again. Now he’s looking like my grandmother.

He qualifies under the category of "Men who look like old lesbians."

Costas and Lauer were just discussing saying he was choked up at the beginning by the situation.

OK, I don’t feel too much like a stick in the mud.

I enjoyed the Opening Ceremonies overall. I thought it was well done. I don’t know if we missed it or not, but I was kind of surprised there was none of the “New Wave” of British Music from the early 1980s in that montage. Likely NBC just cut to commercial.

I thought that was the case, or he had a cold....I know on his last tour he still could reach the high notes.

No question, great music. I might have liked to hear ELO perform Fire On High after the torch lighting instead. Great instrumental that would’ve made a great impact. That would’ve beewn awesome.

OK I am going to ask NBC to hire me for the next Olympics. I can make the TV coverage of the opening ceremony 100% better. I'll just sit behind Costas and Lauer and whoever else the have as announcers. I'll sit there with a 2x4 in hand and every time they start to talk during the ceremony I'll just whack them in the forehead until they understand to STFU.

Why do they hire these idiots to babble incessantly during the performance? Between them yapping and my local channel constantly running a banner (replete with warning beeps) warning me there is a *GASP* Thunderstorm imminent I could barely hear the program. And for God's sake WSAZ Huntington its a friggin rainstorm. You don't need to interrupt the program every five minutes telling us we might get some rain and wind, GEESH!

The best part was the lighting of the flame, a group effort.

That part about the NHS could have been left out.

Stick in the mud is people who gush over those titles!

I didn’t watch all. Once that NHS worship thing came on (which was weird in so many ways), that clinched it for me.

I do think it was well done for what it was. I liked the very 1st part (what I saw of it - I like history and I understood even without narration, unlike that Sydney chaos). I guess the “music” part could’ve been OK, but didn’t watch enough. But I saw the tasteless French-kissing and thought that was too much, too. “Love” - LOL. If you’re an immoral liberal, this is definitely entertaining.

Then see my comments about the flag ceremony. They had to tell us over the PA about how wonderful these (marxists) are with their holier-than-thou causes (including enviro-crap - I am so sick of the religion this has turned into!).
