I hate having to watch that video. I always think when I see the part where the administrator is unlocking the box to get his emergency plan out that he ought to be getting out a 1911.
I have commented to my students who’ve asked me about “the plan” should there be a shooter in the school that, after we line up against the wall,if the shooter should enter the room, I’m going to go as full psycho as I can, do everything in my power to take the shooter down. My students immediately start laughing and commenting that I’ll probably be killed (I’m not exactly the most ominous-looking specimen of masculinity to walk the planet.) Once the laughter dies down, I mention that right after me, the shooter will likely turn his attention to others in the room. I then say something like, “Of course, you’re free to join me in my attempt to live.” End laughter; cue student introspection.
