There’s a kernel of truth in there.
I can’t build the Hoover Dam or the Golden Gate Bridge or the Marshall Plan or the moon landing.
We all know that - that’s what government is for.
But to say it in such an angry, scolding manner.... To emphasize the negative instead of, or before the positive... just shows the contempt he has for us.
He could have said something like:
“We are still one nation. One person didn’t build the Hoover Dam, it was a nation. One person didn’t build the Golden Gate Bridge, it was a nation. One person didn’t go to the moon, it was a nation. And we are still a nation that comes together and does things for everybody in the nation, and does things for the whole world. and I want to remind each and every one of you that you are not alone, you are an American.”
-— That says pretty much the same thing, but appeals to my sense of optimism. I haven’t been scolded.
(Coming from O’bama, I wouldn’t actually believe it, because of his history, but still..)
Why does he hate me so much?
Daddy issues.
yup.
He said what he said.
He likely MEANT to say something more along the lines of what you posed. But he's not smart enough to come up with something like that, without a teleprompter.
And what he was THINKING was: "I can't believe you all are stupid enough to be applauding this. Send me more money so I can go golfing on your nickel for the next 4+ years!"
“One person didnt build the Golden Gate Bridge, it was a nation.”
I believe the Golden Gate Bridge was built by the City of San Francisco, not the nation. As I recall, the federal government was against building the structure and tried to stop it.
