Cop who hurled slur at Crawford fired

LEOMINSTER, Mass. - A Leominster officer who investigators say directed a racial slur at Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford has been fired by Mayor Dean Mazzarella.

Witnesses said Officer John Perrault, who is white, began heckling Crawford, who is black, before a July 5 minor league Portland Sea Dogs game in Manchester, N.H., earlier this month. The witnesses said Perrault, who was off-duty, called Crawford a "Monday," which the player interpreted as a racial slur.

The word can be used as a derogatory term for blacks, and is often associated with Mondays being one of the least-liked days of the week.

At a hearing earlier this week, Leominster Police Chief Robert Healey said Perrault was also accused of making other racially insensitive and offensive remarks on his Facebook page.

"John's response was, 'A guy who walked by us with Guinness on his T-shirt and I said I didn't know they had Guinness in Africa,'" Healey said referring to a Facebook posting.

Healey recommended that Perrault be fired.

“What I uncovered is a disturbing pattern of behavior by Officer Perrault. Termination is appropriate discipline,” Healey said.

Perrault’s cousin, James Milonas, who was at the game, said the ‘Monday’ comment had nothing to do with race.

“It was all about Crawford making $19 million playing double-A. Even though it was a rehab assignment, he hasn’t produced one ounce for the Red Sox,” Milonas said.

Monday? I looked it up.

Sure enough - it’s a racial slur!

What kind of Tuesdays (see, I’m making up my own insults as I go along) dream up this kind of Wednesday?

Thursday them all. Bunch of Friday-wads.

Garfield the cat hated Mondays too even though I think he didn’t have a job.

Then there was a school-related shooting in the 70s. Woman asked why she did it replied, “Mondays are boring.” (Or, “I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day.”) This inspired the Boomtown Rats “I Don’t Like Mondays”
http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/mondays.asp

And as we said before one Monday we DO like is Rick Monday, who seized the flag two guys were trying to burn on the field at a Cubs-Dodgers game

Evidently “Monday” is a stealth insult, like “bless your heart.”

So calling a guy a “Monday” gets a cop fired.

Busting down the door of the wrong house on a warrantless midnight raid, shooting the homeowner and the homeowner’s dog, and not even apologising for it gets a cop two weeks of paid administrative leave (read: vacation) and a medal.

This is much of what is wrong with America today.

They call it stormy Monday, Tuesday’s just as bad. Wednesday’s worse, and Thursday’s also sad—blues song

Blue Monday how I hate blue Monday, got to work like a slave all day (RACIST! no wait, it’s a Fats Domino song...). Here comes Tuesday... etc

I have never, never, never, never heard that term anywhere. Ridiculous. I have heard, though, of Freedom of Speech. And unless “Monday” is equivalent to yelling “Fire” in a theater, I can’t imagine what the hell the fuss is about.

We have a fellow teacher here at our private school who calls her students (mostly Negroes) “Niggers” in the classroom as casual conversation with them. That’s OK?

Admittedly you can get fired for saying some things—imagine a WalMart greeter saying to customers, Welcome to Walmart. F-— you. They are told not to do and do it again, and they get fired.

Some in the media have been fired or demoted, etc.for what they say “off the clock”.

But...”MONDAY?!?” I suppose I should write The Boston Globe and tell them the edition they’ll put out the day after Sunday should contain the M-word. The M-word is racist!

Monday, Monday
The Mamas And The Papas

Monday Monday, so good to me,
Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn’t guarantee
That Monday evening you would still be here with me.

Monday Monday, can’t trust that day,
Monday Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way
Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be
Oh Monday Monday, how yould cou leave and not take me.

Every other day, every other day,
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin’ all of the time

Monday Monday, so good to me,
Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn’t guarantee
That Monday evening you would still be here with me.

Every other day, every other day,
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin’ all of the time

Monday Monday, ...

imagine a WalMart greeter saying to customers, Welcome to Walmart. F-— you.

At least that is a greeting---most of the time they are imitating a dead person.

Never heard of that one. I guess we prefer more direct insults down here in the South. And what about keeping your thoughts off the Internet? People who do that are just begging for it.

ha, true

Meanwhile last month I went into a FedExOffice in downtown Pittsburgh and found the worker there (who is black, but it doesn’t matter here) happily greeting each customer who came in with a “Welcome, WELCOME!! To Fed Ex Office!” Nice, but got tiring after awhile as I surfed the Web at an internet cubicle :)

I assume that this teacher must be black, because obviously no white teacher who did this would remain a teacher for very long.

I think it's in extremely poor taste, but most American blacks today seem to consider it acceptable to use this term among themselves.
