The "background check" is the crux of the problem: first we were sold on the idea that it would be a minor inconvenience and only "felons and drug users and mental defectives" would be prohibited from owning firearms as is already the case. Then our lovely representatives add some more - the domestic violence/restraining order clause was slipped in in the dead of night - then people who had misdemeanors that would be classed as felonies today were added to the list, so the numbers of unqualifed grew. Now the so-called "instant checks" are taking longer and longer and you as a citizen have no right to know what the delay may be or to see your own record or to change or amend anything.

The Left/antigun forces are using the Brady Bill background check system to expand their power to limit firearms and the people who can possess them. When Obama talks about "improving background checks" he isn't talking about making things more efficient - he's talking about looking for more reasons to deny permission for our own rights.

I’m afraid they are going to sneak in adding vets diagnosed with PTSD as restricted from firearm purchase. Think of all those vets coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan that were “encouraged” to seek help. Now, it could be turned on them.

Seems to me I remember that when they first started “checks” the VA put every Vietnam vet that had claimed PTSD on the list as mentally ill.
