This video is very distrubing and if not “falisifed” the people in this video should be prosecuted.

Just terrible. Pigs have at least the intelligence and sociability of dogs. How long could Walmart get away with producing and selling dog meat in this way?

Disgusting! They should be in jail.

On the other hand, the typical Wal Mart bashing is BS. They buy the product. They are not responsible to inspect the supplier, the USDA is. So piss off about moaning about Wal Mart. They shouldn’t even be mentioned in the article.

Walmart must respond to these accusations.

There is no reason to make an animal suffer just to make a $.

Well, I am glad there is no agenda in the information presented here and that this is completely unbiased. And I am sorry you have such an emotional response because they were really appealing to your logic.

Yes, farming is a dirty business and you better be thankful that food is cheap and plentiful. The reason they are farrowed in the small cages is so the sows won't roll over on the piglet and kill them. But maybe you would think that is ok. They are in the farrowing crates at farrowing time, not their whole life.

Yes there are deformed pigs that have to be destroyed. They are NOT force fed to the sows but that is a natural inclination of a sows and boars. Maybe you want to step up and adopt one of the deformed pigs.

Sometimes I think it would be better if everyone killed there own food, there would be more respect for life.

Get a life people. Be thankful for the food supply we have. They way things are going you might experience some REAL HUNGER, but then you wouldn’t be complaining.

Gestation crates that restrict a pregnant sow from lying down or lowering their heads are absolutely necessary to save piglets from their own brainless mothers. A sow will joyfully wallow on her brood with no clue that she is killing them. It is also quite common for a sow to eat it’s young as they are born.

I can understand that present generations become animal activists through lack of practical experience. No one condones animal torture but neither can the world be supplied with needed hemi protein and still provide animal utopia for food species before slaughter. Farm life instills much needed realism but not everyone can have it.

Watching a sow calmly devouring her own squealing, writhing piglet that has just dropped from her body might just impress upon you the necessity of farrowing crates.

If you give it a chance, a pig will eat you.

It is impossible to mistreat a pig.

“The chilling squeals of other piglets pierce the air as the tiny animals have their testicles and tails ripped off with pliers, allegedly without any anesthetic used.”

I hate to shock folks, but I’ve never seen a calf anesthetized before being castrated and branded. IIRC, they make the biggest fuss being dehorned. That is done without being anesthetized, too.

Docking tails from lambs...ditto.

Hope they don’t watch my horses too closely...or my dogs with a stick in the backyard.

Yes, Yes it is very shocking and it is wrong.

However, how many of the people who will be shocked about this have NO problem with the dismemberment and murder of a children in the womb and will rail against people who speak against people like Obama who never opened his large yap while a member of the Illinois Senate except to call for POST birth infanticide.

So, I do not agree with pigs being treated poorly, but they ARE animals raised and slaughtered for meat. They are not people, they are not human. In this country it is absolutely legal to kill a human being with a distinct and unique genetics makeup at ANYTIME prior to birth.

They are not raised and slaughtered just for profit. They are sold so people can be fed also. And there is nothing wrong with profit. Without profit, you would not have a job or be able to pay your bills.

All this is about is Wal-Mart is not unionized. You think Wal-Mart is the only buyer of these pigs? My guess is there are other buyers who are union companies and you are not saying anything about them.

Since the subject of animal husbandry has been broached; I’ve a word of wisdom for all pet owners who like to refer to their pets as “family” and put the animal kingdom on the same level or above mankind. While you watch your Chef Michael commercials about the lovely natural meats and pristine veggies that supposedly make up your pet’s food; I’m looking at some of the actual ingredients lying in my farm gate that have been waiting for pickup for well over a hot, steamy week.(dead cow). Other goodies are no doubt waiting by the barrel at the local humane shelter since the last euthenasia day. Chef Michael is nowhere to be seen. I don’t like to be cruel and I know your sensibilities are delicate but get real!

The link below may be of interest to you and give you something to campaign against besides OUR food supply.

Propaganda; disappointed that you are falling for this and posting on a conservative website. Most people know nothing about farming and will respond to this emotional propaganda.
The object of these people is to get rid of ALL animal agriculture.
I grew up on a farm raising pigs and farmed myself for awhile raising pigs. Here are some facts. Baby pigs are born into litters of 9 to 12. They grow very fast and compete with each other for mama’s milk; they jostle and push each other. To keep them safe; they are in a farrowing stall with their 350 pound mother; the pigs weigh a pound or two at birth. The sow isn’t allowed to turn around; as she could easily crush the little ones.
At about day 2 or 3; I used to do some things to the pigs for their safety and health.
Clip their tails off. Pigs are chewers, and will chew each others tails as the grow to market weight.
Clip their needle teeth. These are sharp teeth on the sides of the mouth that protrude slightly. If those teeth are not clipped; you will see the litter of pigs bloodied as they fight for milk while nursing. 2 teeth per side if I remember correctly.
Castrate the males. Non castrated male pigs are inedible. They develop “boar taint” as they reach market weight and are aggressive. Boar taint is a hormone that the testicles develop and will make the meat smell like it.
And then give the pigs a couple of vaccinations.
I could do all of this to one pig in less than a minute. The pig went immediately back to the sow and would in many cases start nursing right away.
They would squeal during the castration part which took about 10 seconds. Squealing stopped after that.
Some baby pigs have to be euthanized. No one likes to do it, but some get injured or have some other condition. Most painless way is to take the pig and hit the head on a floor. Can’t imagine the pig will feel any pain from that as it is instant.
And pigs will die other ways including getting laid on in the farrowing stall by the sow. There will always be a few dead pigs to deal with. They need to taken out; some farms have an incinerator; some farms compost them. But there will be some.
Gestation crates are similar to farrowing stalls. That is where the sows go to be mated which is normally done through artificial insemination. If not in gestation crates, the sows will fight each other. It’s almost impossible to inseminate them outside of a crate. Natural mating are just not predictable or practical in today’s systems. Artificial insemination is very precise .
The sows sleep a lot; and yes they do chew on things when bored. Some farms will have something in there for them to chew on.

This line is utter bull$hit from the article.
“Gruesome: The bodies of dead and bloodied pigs are strewn around the farm. The sows are force fed dead piglets”

Pigs are NOT force fed to sows, never heard of such nonsense, pure propaganda. Dead pigs are NOT “strewn” around. As I said before there will be a few pigs that need to be disposed of; they may be collected before disposing off. No farmer would leave piles of dead animals in his buildings as it would be a disease vector. I have no doubt that these animal rights activists wouldn’t stage some things however. THEY HAVE DONE THIS FREQUENTLY in these videos.

I’m no fan of PETA, but some of this was pretty nasty stuff. You can use a humane killer that wouldn’t take any more time than whacking the piglets against the floor and then leaving them to die. You can at least use a sharp instrument to dock tails.

I don’t know what to say about the gestation cages. Pigs are notorious for rolling over on their piglets and sometimes for eating them. Hard tellin’ if the sows are really kept in the gestation enclosures for all of their lives and just bred and rebred.

And there’s no excuse, in my humble opinion, for leaving a sow with a prolapsed uterus to die rather than either killing her or providing vet care. Same diff for badly injured piglets. The normal “scrapes of baby pigs”, fine, but either humanely kill or get vet care for worse injuries.

As a Christian, I believe we are obliged to treat animals humanely as good stewards of God’s creation. Killing them for food is fine, but making their lives hell 24/7 prior to then is not right.

Flame on.

Has Obama ever been seen eating pork ribs, or pork chops, or pulled pork bbq? Has he ever been seen visiting a pig farm? Just curious....

Ummm, pigs are treated the same if they’re going to Walmart of Publix. It looks like a breeder farm to me. Mother pigs are put in those types of cages to keep them from killing their young by trampling them. Breeder farms sell the young when they get close to 40 pounds...

Being a meat eater does not mean you support this horror.

Sickening and I hope this farm is shut down and the owners prosecuted.
