To me, this guy looks like a classic late adolescent onset schizophrenic. He was dropping out of a neuroscience program, from what I’ve read, so he was clearly pretty bright.
Very often, these people look for ideological justification (Ted Kaczinsky, for example, or Adam Gadahn). There seem to be some ideologies where the borderline between madness and belief is very slender indeed, and the two that come to mind ummediately are anarchism (Black Bloc) and Islam.
Ernst Becker pointed out hat the mental hospitals in France emptied out during the Terrror, because their inhabitants had finally found an ideology as crazy as they were and one in which they were perceived as normal.

I was wrong about his stature. I thought he might be short, but instead the shooter was 6’3’.
It’s the way of the world and no place is safe from it’s infiltration. Eventually, freepers are the first to discount it/them and the first to report the truth. So this place is on top of things, IMO.

I tend make odd facial expressions when I see a photo of a serial killer or some other evil individual.
My eyes will widen when I see a photo like this or when someone else has particularly cold,soulless eyes.
Unless you genuinely believe that [xxxx number of] OWS supporters -- on the OWS boards; on DU; etc. -- are all involved in some fiendishly intricate and diabolical sort of mass practical joke, or some unfathomable form of online performance art: yup.

I could sign up for that site in about 5 seconds, and post in that thread that "Holmes was an agent controlled by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle from Free Republic, who told him to conduct the massacre, that's established now."
Don’t know any details, like probably everyone else here, but if it is true that he called himself ‘The Joker’, he may be schizophrenic. If he’s indeed schizophrenic it will be difficult to find anything about this that makes any sense regarding his motivations etc. Schizophrenia is a sad consequence of abnormal brain chemistry. I’ve seen schizophrenics who genuinely thought that aliens were beaming thoughts into their head, and then became perfectly rationale when medicated. It’s a horrible disease. I’m not saying this is what happened. I’m just responding to the question of how could anyone do this.
