Also, if they were grooming one then there's a high likelihood that something could go wrong such as an accidental death or serious injury, the kid turns out to be a total bozo (uh, yeah, I know), he doesn't want to play the game, he has no charisma, etc. That means, if they were smarter than said 12 year old, then they would have groomed others.
