Because we have paid the most into SS and Medicare and will not collect. And unlike the people who spit venom at the people who are their friends and family, I am all for stopping these programs if it will save our kids and grandchildren from crushing taxes in the future. Government programs pit groups of people against one another in a fight for the spoils.

Generally the boomers will be left with a powerful voting block. That is why in the end I believe Americans generally love their graft and want it to keep coming, to hell with the deficit. Toqueville warned us about this.

I still consider the war generation the greatest generation for the simple reason, on a personal level, they lived within their means. My grandparents still use only cash. The boomers and all the generations after simply seem to love being in debt. They just can't wait. That is why I think the US will never follow the high savings route of the Japanese. Americans could be finding their next meal at a soup kitchen but still be racking up their credit line because they can't go without the latest Iphone.
