~Favorite "Home" Songs~

*Metallica- Welcome Home (Sanitarium)*

Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
Just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, no windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred

Sleep my friend and you will see
That dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
Can’t they see it’s why my brain says rage

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Build my fear of what’s out there
And cannot breath the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I’m insane

They think our heads are in their hands
But violence use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He’s getting better, can’t you tell ?

No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
But they think this saves us from our hell

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone
Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Fear of living on
Natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
Got some death to do
Mirror stares back hard
Kill, it’s such a friendly word
Seems the only way
For reaching out again

*Marc Broussard - Home*

Rolling down the road
Going no where, guitar packed in the trunk
Somewhere around mile marker 112
Papa started humming the funk
I gotta Jones in my bones
Before I know, we be singing this melody
Stop the car, pull out the guitar
Halfway to New Orleans

Said take me home, home, home, home
Take me home, home, home, home

Could feel sun about to rise
When I realized we had nothing to fear
Just me and my daddy and a kid named Cole
Playing music that nobody could hear
And then the sun let up and it split the night
Spilling over our jubilee
10,000 cars by the side of the road
Grooving far as the eye can see

Said take me home, home, home, home
Take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home

This greyhound is delta bound mama
Baby boy done finally found
Said this greyhound is delta bound mama
Baby boy done finally found his way home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home

Here we go

Hot damn you should've felt the groove
Like I was swimming in a sea of soul
The sun was rising and the day was hot
And we was all about to loose control
My daddy turned his face up towards the sky
And I knew that there was nothing to loose
I felt the crowd breathe in and I closed my eyes
And we disappeared into the groove

Said take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home
Take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home

Straight from the water
Straight from the water children
Straight from the water
Straight from the water children
Straight from the water
Straight from the water children
Straight from the water
You don't know nothing about this

Take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home, home, home, home

Said take me home, home, home, home
Said take me home
Said take me home
Take me home
Said take me home
Said take me home

*Kansas - Nobody's Home*

It's empty now, no friendly face
And nothing lives within
I look around and I find no trace
To tell me what has been

So far I've come to find
There's no one here, no life I fear
I came for nothing, they have gone
And nobody's home, no one's home

I came to learn, perhaps to teach
But I can tell somehow
The world that I was sent to reach
Has got no future now

Across the galaxy to spread the word
And no one heard
I came for nothing, I'm alone
And nobody's home, no one's home

A requiem was never sung
No elegy was read
No monument was carved in stone
In memory of the dead

For those who made this place
Do not remain, they feel no pain
A stranger fate was never known

Good evening to everyone at the Canteen. Got a strong smell of Pepe le Pu in the back yard again.

Here is a late night snack for anyone who needs a bite to eat.

My all-time favorite "Home" song--a "Hit of the Week" cardboard disc sold at news stands in the early weeks of 1932.

London Homesick Blues by Gary P Nunn. A favorite when I was stuck in a libtard dungheap called Minnestoopid.

HOME TOWN - Joe Jackson

Of all the stupid things I could have thought
This was the worst
I started to believe
That I was born at seventeen
And all the stupid things
The letters and the broken verse
Stayed hidden at the bottom of the drawer
They’d always been
And now I plough through piles
Of bills, receipts and credit cards
And tickets and the Daily News
And sometimes I just . . .

Wanna go back to my home town
Though I know it’ll never be the same
Back to my home town
‘Cause it’s been so long
And I’m wondering if it’s still there

We think we’re pretty smart
Us city slickers get around
And when the going’s rough
We kill the pain and relocate
We’re never married
Never faithful not to any town
But we never leave the past behind
We just accumulate
So sometimes when the music stops
I seem to hear a distant sound
Of waves and seagulls
Football crowds and church bells
And I . . .

Wanna go back to my home town
Though I know it’ll never be the same
Back to my home town
‘Cause it’s been so long
And I’m wondering if it’s still there

Back to my home town
Though I know it’ll never be the same
Back to my home town
‘Cause it’s been so long
And I’m wondering if it’s still there

Dierks Bentley - Home

"Home"

West, on a plane bound west
I see her stretching out below
Land, blessed mother land
The place where I was born

Scars, yeah she’s got her scars
Sometimes it starts to worry me
Cause lose, I don’t wanna lose
Sight of who we are

From the mountains high
To the wave crashed coast
There’s a way to find
Better days I know

It’s been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
But this is still the place
That we all call home

Free, nothing feels like free
Though it sometimes means we don’t get along
Cause same, no we're not the same
But that’s what makes us strong

From the mountains high
To the wave crashed coast
There’s a way to find
Better days I know

It’s been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
But this is still the place
That we all call home

Brave, gotta call it brave
To chase that dream across the sea
Names, and they signed their names
For something they believed

Red, how the blood ran red
And we laid our dead in sacred ground
Just think, wonder what they think
If they could see us now

It’s been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
But this is still the place
That we all call home

It’s been a long hard ride
And I won’t lose hope
This is still the place
That we all call home

Before 1930, "Home on the Range" was sung to a different melody than the one most of us know today. Incidentally, my maternal grandmother was born in Harlan, Kansas, where the lyrics to "Home on the Range" were written.

Home on the Range--Jules Allen, c. 1928

Politics aside, another great one: My Hometown by Bruce Springsteen

I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I'd sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around
this is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown

In '65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come to my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown

Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back to your
hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown

Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I'm thirty-five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around,
this is your hometown
