Christians have in the past torn down idols and destoryed cultural icons they observed to be dangerous or foul.
When the Spanish arrived in Mexico, they found native priests killing babies and eating the newly cut-out hearts. After having survived 700+ years of tyranny under the Muslims in Spain, it would be surpising if the Christians hadn’t gone about destoying such evil.
Now, there are those who would have preferred the Spanish to have been a lot less thorough in their destruction of pre-columbian artifacts, particularly the writings of the Aztecs.
Am I equating Islam to Christianity? No.
The majority of conversion movements were accomplished peacefully and with little or no bloodshed.
Did a lot of pagan arifacts survive in Europe? Depends on where in Europe one looks.
