Greece: Police ignore racist attacks

Gangs of Greeks are regularly attacking immigrants with impunity across the country and authorities are ignoring or discouraging victims from filing complaints, advocacy group Human Rights Watch said in a report on Tuesday.

Immigrants shout slogans during an anti-racism rally in Nikaia

"Migrants and asylum seekers spoke to Human Rights Watch of virtual no-go areas in Athens after dark because of fear of attacks by often black-clad groups of Greeks intent on violence," the report said.

"While tourists are welcome, migrants and asylum seekers face a hostile environment, where they may be subject to detention in inhuman and degrading conditions, risk destitution and xenophobic violence."

The country is a major gateway into the European Union for undocumented migrants from Asia and Africa and a fifth straight year of recession and unemployment at a record high has helped fuel anti-immigrant sentiment, with migrants blamed for rising crime levels and accused of eating into a shrinking pot of subsidised services from the state.

Human Rights Watch said the true extent of xenophobic violence in Greece was not clear given many victims do not report the crime and since government statistics are unreliable.

The group said it interviewed 59 people

Wonder how many of these “Migrants and asylum seekers” are in Greece illegally?

Just like here, except “Human Rights Watch” couldn’t care less.

The key part of the article is that they are ok with tourists.

DUH! WTH you think that means? I’ll tell ya. It means they don’t really give a ratsass about your race. What they are mad about is people who come into the country stealing jobs, working under the table for cash, scamming the system, and soaking up more than their fair share of government benefits. Yes, there is a race factor involved because most likely those people who are soaking up the free government money are immigrants from north africa, turkey, and the middle east...maybe yugoslavia and southern parts of the old soviet union also.

Rich people from south america spending money in greece? no problem.

Rich people from east asia spending money in greece? no problem.

Rich people from the pacific islands spending money in greece? no problem.

Rich people from saudi arabia spending money in greece? no problem.

Rich people from India spending money in greece? no problem.

Rich people from israel spending money in greece? no problem.

Poor people from tunisia or albania in greece for government subsidies? PROBLEM!!!! GTFO now ya dam leaches.

getting rid of illegals does not equal xenophobia either. i would like the us army to reny malmo sweden for a month and use it for live fire combat in muslim cities training. make a deal with the swedes we will pay for the transport and ammo, you pay for the damages.

If repelling an invasion of your country is now considered xenophobia, the End must be near.

I wouldn’t call it xenophobia, because it is not a “fear of foreigners”. Rather it is xenoparasitophobicity, a “rejection of parasitical foreigners”.

Looks more like an economics problem than race.

“If repelling an invasion of your country is now considered xenophobia, the End must be near.”

Exactly; any American citizen who questions the right of Mexicans to come here illegally to work is a “racist”. BTW, this tactic has been incredibly successful in the US; politicians aren’t allowed to touch the subject, and the invasion continues unabated. Even worse, politicians pander to them in their own languages, selling out American citizens for a quick buck.

Obviously these are stupid immigrants....why in the world you want to go to Greece to look for work?

Tells me that these are Illegals, and looking for a handout. There are no jobs, so their labor is not needed

Human Rights Watch is also anti-European and heterophobic....so their “whining racism” always has to be questioned

Greece is broke.

Unemployment is over 20% ...

The “migrants and asylum seekers” (‘illegals’) are breaking into Greece to take what they can. There's no pretense about wanting to be ‘Greek’. They want what loot is still available...

The above is NOT an excuse to hurt the people coming from inferior cultures - but it IS a reason for the Greek Government to enforce their borders.
