Until last Tuesday, the president's media personality cult felt certain that Obama's re-election was in the bag. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's triumph over media and union forces received scant notice compared to manufactured exit polls claiming that Wisconsinites favored Obama over the GOP's Mitt Romney by 51-44 percent. However, it is clear that Walker's victory foreshadows major problems for the president, his party and big labor.
It turns out that 38 percent of Wisconsin's private-sector union households voted in support of Walker. This caused some in the media to let go of their post-recall denial and face an uncomfortable truth, "Barack Obama faces a grim new reality: Republicans now believe Mitt Romney can win, and Democrats believe Obama can lose..." writes Time magazine's Mark Halperin.
The New York Times' Michael Shear observed, "Although Mr. Obama kept his distance from the state in the final weeks of the union-led recall effort, his party, his campaign team and his labor allies exerted an enormous joint effort there that proved to be mismatched for the organized and well-financed Republican apparatus.
"The corporate interests and billionaires who are pouring cash into Mr. Romney's 'super PACs' gave millions to Mr. Walker. To combat those resources, Mr. Obama's campaign, aided by union allies, constructed a turnout machine in Wisconsin that they said will be a model for other battleground states."
Needless to say, Mr. Romney certainly hopes so.
If you are among the majority of Americans who welcomed the Walker victory and see a bright post-Obama future (sooner rather than later), you can thank the U.S. Supreme Court and its ruling in Citizens United vs. FEC. By declaring the suppression of political advertising by advocacy groups a violation of First Amendment free speech, the high court leveled the playing field in the marketplace of ideas.
However, President Obama didn't quite see it that way. The president attacked the court in his 2010 State of the Union Address for opening "the floodgates for special interests ... to spend without limit in our elections. Well, I don't think American elections should be bankrolled by America's most powerful interests ...," said the president.
What Obama meant, of course, is that he feared the information monopoly held by America's most powerful interests - the mainstream media and Hollywood's purveyors of popular culture - would be broken, giving outside forces (Tea Party, conservative and libertarian) an opportunity to present counter views - at least around election time.
The Tea Party midterm "shellacking" of 2010 proved Obama right. Gov. Scott Walker's shellacking of the news media, Hollywood, union and Democratic Party axis served to underscore this seismic shift.
This shift becomes more remarkable when one stops to consider that the Progressive propaganda machine broadcasts its message through site and sound on a 24-hour basis. Conservative talk radio (and Fox News on occasion) provides temporary relief from the Progressive/leftist misinformation onslaught. Conservative leaning super PACs is an election season rapid-response rebuttal to the Progressive information monopoly.
American Progressivism is on the ropes and the welling fear of its proponents is palpable.
Last Tuesday evening, MSNBC's perpetual smirk, Rachel Maddow, relayed to her scant viewership the hope that waiting for Wisconsin's recall-election results would be a "possible all-nighter. Maybe even the Today Show, tomorrow morning, wouldn't be able to help you out with the results."
She composed herself and let the reality of the situation sink in, "Forty-nine minutes after the polls closed in Wisconsin, NBC News declared Scott Walker the projected winner in the Wisconsin governor recall. It did not even take an hour."
In the end, a mountain of lies was reduced to a molehill by bold and truthful arguments. And, as the president will soon discover, the left has lost its treasured monopoly on the definition of truth.
Like Rachel Maddow, it should take President Obama less than an hour to figure that out.

All of the ‘people in this country’?? All of them/ us ‘are too lazy’?? Are you projecting? Enough of ‘them’ got it to keep Governor Walker. Common sense is all it takes.
That is true. The American populace by and large is lazy. Unfortunately, it goes further than that. Many are close to being functionally illiterate and unable to read the political commentary which would inform them of what is taking place.
The older people do. Younger folks are bailing on big media in an ever-increasing stream, which is why the MSM is quietly freaking out.
I hope the MSM continue to lie to their viewers about how close the race is and then Obamah is defeated in the largest landslide in history.
They have been dumbed down; from the time they went to kindergarten, no one challenged them to think independently or critically, and question the crap that was spoon-fed to them.
Americans may or may not be physically lazy (looking at the guts on people at the Chinese buffet and I tend to think they are). However, Americans are certainly intellectually lazy by letting the government and their propaganda organs think for them.
Wouldn't these pro-Obama pollsters--if that is indeed what they are--be better served by painting a dire picture of his re-election chances in order to stimulate voter interest?
Not that I am complaining.
Here’s my theory....they know that a large percentage of republicans/conservatives are not excited about Romney.
If they can discourage those people - make them feel like it isn’t worth their time to come out for a guy they don’t even like.....
After last week’s SCOTUS fiasco, I’ll take nothing for granted again.
