Funny how they never mention what actual weapon that was being carried by the deceased. If by “assualt weapon” they mean an AK-47 type or M-16/AR-15/M-4 type, my question is, how do you conceal it under your clothing, especially with a magazine attached, and given the light clothing probably worn given the summer heat?

I suppose it could have been a Draco or had a folding stock.

...and given the light clothing probably worn given the summer heat? The baggy sweatshirt hoody may have raised a suspicion for the officers. (I don't know what the kid was wearing but it would have been something more than a "wife beater T-shirt" to conceal a long gun of any kind.

“Assaultweapon” is actually one word and is a synonym for “gun” or sometimes “cell phone.”
