I think if Texas went, several other states may very well go with it.
Alaska has always been another one I’ve always wondered why they hang on. They are 100% self sufficient with access to the ocean and abundant natural resources. Much of their state is federal land, prohibiting them from using their own land.
I just wonder if such scenarios could lead to another ‘war between states’ if the president should attempt to FORCE them to stay as Lincoln did. Very interesting topic, because if things continue to deteriorate, I don’t believe it’s unrealistic.
That self-sufficiency is of course why they're #3 on the list of "taker" states, with $1.84 in federal payments for each dollar of taxes.

Alaska could never secede without the assistance of a foreign power. The continental U.S. could cripple a secessionist Alaska by embargo alone.
Self sufficient? Really? How much dairy is made in Alaska? What medicines are produced in Alaska? What dry goods are made in Alaska? What industrial products are made in Alaska? Vegetables, wheat, rice, corn, sugar? The average Alaskan would subsist on the eskimo diet for all of a week before begging to be let back into the union.
I have visited family in Alaska many times when I still had family there, and Alaskans are extremely dependent on the daily influx of cargo planes which explains in part the extremely high cost of living.
