Once again I'll ask my questions...

Are those of us who served but didn't serve in combat be eligible since it's VFW or is this only reserved for its members?
Is this restricted to honorable service or are those who messed up and got a General, OTH or BC discharge welcome to apply?
Is the VFW going to help push the paperwork or help pay for getting a passport?
Do vets even need a passport to get hired to begin with?

Too many unknowns unreported in this article.

“Once again I'll ask my questions...”

Why not ask your questions of someone who will answer them for you philman_36? ?

Such as the VFW or the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation.

Are you looking for a job of this type?

Veterans already have passports. Go to the link and apply online. It will answer your questions. It says hiring vets ..I did not note anything saying combat vets. Check it out. Oh, sure general discharge should not be a problem but not sure on the others. It is worth the time to look into imo.

Do you need someone to hold your hand? for heaven’s sakes..the article states guard and reservists are eligible. It gives the link. Maybe you could spend a few mins and check it out. sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh apply for the new positions, go to www.vetjobs.com, click on Search Jobs, then type “opportunity awaits” into the company search field. Additional job postings will be added in the coming months as the Canadian pipeline project progresses.

Philman,
Here are some answers for you:
Are those of us who served but didn't serve in combat be eligible since it's VFW or is this only reserved for its members? It is open to everyone, both veterans and non-veterans. The jobs are advertised on VetJobs which is sponsored by the VFW (actually own 10%) and endorsed by many veteran service organizations like the MOPH, VVA, SVA, AUSN, NGAUS, etc. Is this restricted to honorable service or are those who messed up and got a General, OTH or BC discharge welcome to apply?
Anyone who would be eligible to work in Canada can apply

Is the VFW going to help push the paperwork or help pay for getting a passport?
No, the VFW is advertising the openings through VetJobs (www.vetjobs.com), a military job board in which they own 10%. VetJobs purpose over the last 13 years has been to get veterans, their spouses and children qulaity employment.

Do vets even need a passport to get hired to begin with?
You can visit Canada on your drivers license or a military ID card, but to stay and work I believe you need a visa.

Usually the foreign employer takes care of those things. A Vet should not need much more than their DD214 (Honorable) and a passport. I’m sure you can acquire both. The passport takes about two weeks. DD214s can be obtained online.

Why Vets? Just consider the working conditions and lack of supervision. A labor pool which will get to work on time, refrain from drugs, have team focus and discipline and aversion to crime is invaluable in the back country.
