Its three days and counting before the deadline by the FBI hits in which theyve threatened to shut down your Internet connection. The agency believes they are doing Americans a favor.

OK so my question is,when you go to the website to “check” your PC, is the FBI installing a sux-net virus fragment so they can shut us all down “whatever” to “keep the peace?”
Just saying..
There is a "II" out?????
Type in dns-ok.us lets you know if your computer is OK.
I think it’s just an excuse to try out their internet
kill switch. I don’t think they would just come out and say
it. They want everyone too make sure to update their systems
before Monday. Whats in the updates?
What do you mean?
This is the most exciting news since "Star Flick: The Next Penetration IX" was released!
They can’t stop the signal Mel.
Old school for me.
Uncle Ream Us meets snow white and the 7 dwarfettes.
Two things:
my husband the engineer says its impossible
and I don’t, care all our computers are Apple
Jason's ass wears a hockey mask then advertises on craiglist and saws up anyone who shows up.
Awesome premise.
Poor headline by Fox. The FBI isn’t shutting down anyone’s internet. It’s shutting down some faux servers that have been seized that were originally the destination of hijacked computers. If your computer isn’t infected by this particular piece of malware, it will connect normally.
Don't think. You obviously have zero grasp of the mechanics involved here. This is nothing of the sort.
I hear it stars Henry Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzhenry....
Are those Word Girl characters???
These should have been shut down months ago. If they have one virus, they probably have more viruses they are spreading.
Computer is OK. Thanks.
Good one!
What about “The 7 Studs Meet Grizzly” starring Biff McHardcheese that you kept insisting we watch together?
Don’t tell everyone! That was for just us.
I see that someone watched Space Mutiny via MST3k.
I was scheduled to receive “On Golden Fondle” and “Driving Miss Daisy...wink wink” on Monday. Hopefully Netflix won’t be impacted.
FBI shutting down my internet? Clayton Morris is clueless. Does he make this stuff up or is he just stupid?
Big deal. I’ve known about this site for a while:
If you go there, and it’s mostly green, unless you have some unusual proxy configuration, you are clean.
Type in dns-ok.us lets you know if your computer is OK

...Thank you
DNS Resolution = GREEN
Your computer appears to be looking up IP addresses correctly!
Had your computer been infected with DNS changer malware you would have seen a red background. Please note, however, that if your ISP is redirecting DNS traffic for its customers you would have reached this site even though you are infected. For additional information regarding the DNS changer malware, please visit the FBI’s website at:

No and I don’t want the government to help.
I’m happy and secure with my White Hatters...
I would not click on the Gestapo’s, uh I mean, the FBI’s link. Obama and his thugs would love to be able to shut down the internet when they declare martial law.
“You obviously have zero grasp of the mechanics involved here.”
The mechanics of the internet? The mechanics of the
malware, or the mechanics of the updates? Finding out
and sharing, I assumed, is what this forum was about. Not
posturing some petty supremacy. Jezzz....

Paul Johnson. Err, oh, no wait.
And Mike is better than Joel!
Well, Joel and Mike are quite different cats. Personally, I prefer Mikes’s darker sense of humour. That, and his audiophile references are a hoot.
Silly, nonfactual reporting. The government isn’t shutting down anyones’ internet connection. All they are doing is shutting down some DNS servers they set up that malware-infected computers happen to be pointing to. Your internet connection will still be “up” when they shut them down, but if you are infected, your computer will not be able to properly access it, since it will not be able to resolve any domain names.
Get rid of your malware, and reset your DNS/Winsock/Proxy/HOSTS file settings, and you will be able to use your internet connection just fine. It might be difficult to do that without being able to access your internet, though, unless you have the right tools downloaded on your computer already. So, if you are worried, download ComboFix, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and CCleaner before then, to be safe.
“I think its just an excuse to try out their internet
kill switch.”
No, this has nothing to do with a “kill switch”. Some people’s computers are infected with a virus that redirected them to the hackers’ server to resolve web addresses, so the hackers could redirect their web activity to pages other than the ones a user wanted to go to. After the government busted the hackers, they set up some DNS servers with those same IP addresses, so the infected machines would be able to access the internet normally. They are only turning off those servers, so the only people affected are those who still have this virus.
“They want everyone too make sure to update their systems
before Monday.”
No, this isn’t about updates, it’s about getting the people who are infected with the virus to get it removed from their system, and get their internet settings fixed before these servers are taken down. Otherwise, those machines will not be able to access the internet. Physically, their internet connection is still running fine, but because of the changes that the virus made to their operating system, any time they try to access a web page, they will just get an error.
Inspect Her Gadget, Lawrence of a Labia, Sometimes a Great Lotion, the list goes on...
Tagged so I can check each of my computers.
I will not click on any FBI or new gov site. I’ve contacted my ISP, my Malware and protection venues.
I’ll let them handle it.
So is it unreasonable to assume that if I am infected, and the FBI has been handling my domain name resolution since November, that they could have been logging every website I’ve visited in that time?
bflr
Well, it’s possible, but you’ll have to judge for yourself if it’s reasonable or not.
Can’t he be both?
Anal Madness II Good movie gave that a 3 rectal thermometers

who the hell are they to do that !!!
They should E— S—t and D— !
You just might want to check anyway. Apples are NOT immune to the dns changer. Just do a search for 'dns changer apple' and you'll find a number of articles.
Here's one for a start.
Okay - explain with your "superior grasp" why the government cannot wrest control of our access to the Internet away from us. If some podunk dictator can control.censor his country's access, our "leaders" can manage it with us. There might be some chinks in the wall, but most do not have knowledge/skills to leverage them.
That is my question, a little “tracking” bot so they can come “discuss” various opinions we have with us?
so come Monday you cannot turn on your computer, who will you blame?
Algorithm
In the OSF-specified algorithm for generating new (V1) GUIDs, the user's network card MAC address is used as a base for the last group of GUID digits, which means, for example, that a document can be tracked back to the computer that created it.
