To: Conservative Vermont Vet I remember flying on a PanAm (MAC Charter)from Yokota AB, Japan, INTO Tan Son Nhut AB, Saigon, RVN in Jun 1967. Crisp new $20 bills which wilted before our very eyes while standing in line to exchange the US Currency for MPC.

LOL!

Was some kind of a shock wasn't it?

Oh that heat. Especially during Monsoon season.

Take a (luke warm, or whatever temp the water was from a 50 Gal drum) shower, put on a clean shirt and within moments of stepping outside, one was covered with sweat and your shirt clung to your back.

Of course when not working, that gave us a good excuse (as if we needed one) to head to the closest (Air Conditioned) Watering Hole and have "beaucoup" (Formaldihyde laden) 33 Beer.

Seems like you were just coming, when I was going.

Stay well, stay safe, Welcome Home my brother and God Bless.

I had already spent a tour in the Philippines, so adjusting to the heat wasn’t that big of a deal. But you’re right: it’s just impossible to stay fresh for more than a minute or two after a shower. Looking back on it, we had to have been really thirsty to drink ‘33.’
