This is good to know. When the Republicans are in charge, they will be able to intimidate Roberts into making decisions that will uphold the constitution.

Roberts "blinked" under pressure by the White House.

I don’t think we can count on “republicans in charge” playing Chicago politics unless it is to defeat conservatives.

They probably told him to watch “the pelican brief” and said...”might be careful here, Roberts... hate to see the things in that movie happen to you”...( several SC judges are killed in that movie)...

Roberts didn't blink, he broke under the pressure.

Once broken, he no longer has the esteem that he once had, or respect of others who would want to count on him in the future.

Roberts was blackmailed over the illegal adoption of his children.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THU AUG 04, 2005 11:35:09 ET XXXXX

NY TIMES INVESTIGATES ADOPTION RECORDS OF SUPREME COURT NOMINEE’S CHILDREN

**Exclusive**

The DRUDGE REPORT has uncovered a plot in the NEW YORK TIMES’ newsroom to look into the adoption of the children of Supreme Court Nominee John G. Roberts.

The TIMES has investigative reporter Glen Justice hot on the case to investigate adoption records of Judge Roberts’ two young children, Josie age 5 and Jack age 4, a top source reveals.

Judge Roberts and his wife Jane adopted the children when they each were infants.

Both children were adopted from Latin America.

TIMES insider claims the look into the adoptions are part of the paper’s “standard background check.”

....which begs the salient question, what does the White House have on Roberts to make him blink?

I’ve said it before, and it bears repeating again. Filegate was the seminal scandal of the Clinton Administration. FBI background files on over 900 Republican elected officials and political appointees. Having served in the Reagan Administration, there’s a 100% chance the FBI has a file on Roberts, which made it way to DNC operatives during Filegate.

If nothing else, the material in those FBI files served as a starting point for opposition research on Roberts and other Republicans. With Terry Lenzer and the boys on the case, there’s no telling what might have been discovered to prompt Roberts’ sudden conversion.

The dissent in Thursday’s decision reads like a majority opinion, while Roberts’ “majority” summation looks like something that was originally drafted as a dissent. Now, we’re told that Roberts was a late convert to upholding the law. What caused the sudden switch? Was it an ideological conversion, a desire to uphold the “integrity” of the court, or did the Dims discover some deep, dark secret about Roberts?

Yeah, it’s a conspiracy theory, but I’m not buying the idea that Roberts switched so he’ll get a favorable story in the Washington Post “Style” section.

No such luck, I'm afraid.

CJ Roberts is, like George W. Bush, more afraid of the Left than he is of us. Imagine for two seconds that on Thursday, the Court had thrown out PPACA 5-4.

Do you know what would have happened to Roberts and his family by today, only 72 hours from the decision?

I'm sure you do.

He turned out to not be man enough to face what WOULD ABSOLUTELY HAVE COME HIS WAY if he stuck to his original vote.

This effect never works the other way. NO ONE is afraid of us.

Everyone is deluding themselves if they think the Republicans are going to do anything.
They aren't, they will let this Bill stand as it is.
The Republicans always talk a good game but please tell me one time they actually did anything?
When all those Tea Party types were elected in November 2010 they all vowed to defund Obamacare and draw a line on the Debt and Deficit. What happened, Nothing they all caved in.
So if the recent past is any indicator look for nothing to happen except a lot of hot air.
The Republicans have broken faith repeatedly, why believe anything they say and don't forget they were the ones who had a comprehensive plan for a Government Single Payer System back in the 1990’s that the Democrats built on passed as Obamacare.

The only danger and problem with that thinking is that the Republicans who might be in charge again are the same types, or even more liberal, as the Republicans who thought Roberts would make a good Chief Justice. Roberts is a good Chief Justice in their eyes, but they are a lot more liberal than you or I.

This is a nightmare that will take many years to resolve, because the liberal Republicans are firmly entrenched and not enough Conservatives are motivated to vote them out of office or to vote against them in the primaries, and we don't have enough Conservatives in Congress yet to really keep stand up to the Democrats and RINOs that get in the White House.

Thread winner.

Roberts is a coward who will fold under pressure, because he's afraid to be disliked. How pathetic.
