New Disability Regs Limit Slope of Mini Golf Holes, Require Businesses to Admit Mini Horses as Guide Animals
Although the Justice Department has extended the deadline for Americas hotels to comply with regulations regarding handicap access to swimming pools, new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines are already being applied at miniature golf courses, driving ranges, amusement parks, shooting ranges and saunas.
Among the provisions in the "Revised ADA Standards for Accessible Design," which went into effect on March 15, is one requiring businesses to allow miniature horses on their premises as guide animals for the disabled. Another limits the height of slopes on miniature golf holes.
The new standards, for the first time, include requirements for judicial facilities, detention and correctional facilities, and recreational facilities, Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez said during a conference in Baltimore on June 7.
We expect the implementation of these accessibility standards to open up doors for full participation in both the responsibilities, such as jury duty, and the benefits, such as playing at city parks, of civic life for people with disabilities, he said.
The 2010 ADA standards for Accessible Design require that at least 50 percent of golf holes on miniature golf courses be accessible with a ground space that is 48 inches minimum by 60 inches minimum with slopes not steeper than 1:48 at the start of play.

what the heck is a mini horse?
I'd like to know when this law was passed.
I'd like to know when this law was passed.
Seems like the free market could have dealt with this without regulations. If there was a great demand for handicapped aces-sable mini golf, somebody would have made a fortune.
Please, tell me this isn't real. What's next... handicap-accessible Formula-1 racecars, with a passenger seat for the mini-horse?
If this article IS real, Mr. Semmens your services are requested.
Next in, sand traps on golf courses will have to be wheelchair accessible.
Can you have a spectacular set of 36 climbing and falling miniature golf holes, with a single flat "green" with 36 holes set in it to get to the 50% limit? Or does the ADA say they have to be just as good as the non-accessible holes.
too far?! its not gone far enough. I have a elephant which has been trained as a guide. Do you know how many times I’m refused entry just because my elephant is too large or some such nonsense.
Actually, the mini-horse is kinda cute. Just like a big dog..
Yeah, I was surprised as anybody to have found these mandates in our Constitution. How could I have missed them?
They were right next to abortion, penumbra, privacy, 3 gallons per flush, 60 watt light bulbs, and other Founding Father principles that were emphasized in our Constitution.
“what is a mini horse”
He caught a cold the other day. And he’s a little hoarse.
“It’s been a hard day’s night, and I been working like a dog”.
Try a Muslim mosque instead. Have it video graphed for you. Find a good lawyer.
The revised ADA standards went into effect on 15 March 2011.
LOL I'm picturing that in my mind.
This won’t answer your direct question, but it was GWH Bush who we get to thank for ADA.
I think my tagline may apply here.
GET Bush wasn’t responibile for the lastest revision. Guess who??
On Friday,July 23,2010,Attorney General Eric Holder signed final regulations revising the Departments ADA regulations, including its ADA Standards for Accessible Design. The official text was published in the Federal Register on September 15,2010 (corrections to this text were published in the Federal Register on March 11,2011).
The revised regulations amend the Departments title II regulation,28 CFR Part 35,and the title III regulation,28 CFR Part 36. AppendixA to each regulation includes a section-by-section analysis of the rule and responses to public comments on the proposed rule. AppendixB to the title III regulation discusses major changes in the ADA Standards for Accessible Design and responds to public comments received on the proposed rules.
My guide blue whale will require some further changes after the courts support my demands.

If I get disabled I want a guide/helper pot bellied pig.
How will this affect my monkey butler?

Why, you ask, are guide mini-horses considered to be guide animals? The answer lies in the photo shown in the article. You know, the one of the blind MUSLIM woman in Michigan riding a bus with her guide mini-horse. You see, Muslims do not like dogs, but then, no surprise the Muslims would not like man’s best friend.
They are the ones Lewis Grizzard wrote about in his book, “Shoot Low Boys - They’re Riding Shetland Ponies”.
I saw a picture of a muslim with a mini horse guide animal ...welcome to the 3rd world
If you’ve ever gone to an antique shop and they have no public restroom, this is why. They have one for themselves but it’s not public because often they can’t bring it to code for the disabled.
If I ever get a mini pot-bellied pig, I’m going to name it Halal.
Are they just attempting to see how absolutely ridiculous they can make regulations before we explode? Or are they really serious with this BS?
Beach volleyball doesn’t seem compliant either. It’s difficult to manuever the wheelchair through the sand, and the net seems awfully high....
You cannot toilet train a horse like you can a dog, and fur shur not at all like a cat ~ they even have cats who use a commode and flush it themseles!
Most folks who've dealt with the impact of the regulations have focused on restaurants.
Actually, the horse should be most worried about the friendly neighborhood butcher shop ~ these animals are just incredibly pampered and fed the best stuff ~ so for a certain crowd they definitely have great value ~ AS FOOD. I think one of 'em would fit in your standard home oven.
America will go the way of ancient Rome. first the barbarians invade (Mexicans). Then the government becomes to onerous (Marxists Democrats). Then the rulers take licentious sexual mores (gaying of politics). Finally, the collapse and the rise of warlords. It will get ugly for some. All you bitter religionists clinging to your guns, hold onto them.
Hey, stop thinking like our Founding fathers!
Another legacy of Bush41.
The result of well intentioned Statists on the right result in the same evil as power hungry Statists on the left -- government tyranny.
Our Founders rightfully viewed government as a necessary evil.
Our Founders would have easily predicted the evil that would result from such compassionate acts as the ADA.
Mini golf, mini horses, hmmm...
I have it! Why not convert some of these run-down putt-putt courses to mini polo fields!
