After all these 26 years of life south of the Mason-Dixon, still can't naturally say, "fixin'ta", "y'all" or intentionally use a sentence dropping the verb "to be", as in..."The car needs fixed."
BUT, as you know, I'd rather be here in GreenAcres than any of the multiple NE cities I spent time in...(notice I did not say "did time in"...).

You only need the "to be" in there if you use fixed. If you use the sentence with the proper southern usage "to be" doesn't need to be:) in there. Proper sentence:"The car needs fixin'".
