Can Debbie Douse Drought in Midwest?
Yahoo ^ | June 23rd, 2012 | Sherry Tomfeld

In a new forecast, the National Weather Service is predicting a continuing drought for the Midwest. The drought is being felt from eastern Nebraska through Iowa and Missouri and affects Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. As the drought continues, expectations of high yields are dropping. Could Tropical storm Debbie be on the verge of dampening these dire drought predictions? Maybe.

If Debbie doesn’t deliver, Debbie will be a downer.

It’s already serious, imho. It would be a blessing if Debbie gave the west and midwest some rain.

We’ve got about ten inches of rain we got on Tuesday night that you can just have. Free of charge.

I pray that the storm relieves the drought.

Dear Lord, no! The last time we had a dry stretch relieved by a Tropical Storm was when Erin got stuck here in August, 2007. This was what my town looked like after the rain stopped:

Photobucket

We picked up nearly 13" of rain in three days. Awful!

This would definitely be an answer to our prayers.

They say that heavy rainfalls in drought-stricken areas have been known to cause flash-floods, crop damage and cancer...in fact, I once had a miscarriage driving through Iowa in the pouring rain...

Uh, can I have it a little at a time? Like, maybe one inch a day for ten days?

Seriously, though, I have been praying for the poor souls that have lost everything in the MINN flooding. I nearly lost my life in a flood and I know the devastation they are facing.

Well, I don’t think the transportation is there to donate all at once.

It’s been quite bad here. The land of 10,000 Lakes and 100,000 Streams all seem to be overflowing at the same time.

The weather report is calling for more rain in MI - but no more flooding (they don’t think). Prayers will continue.

We are in a drought here - trees are dying everywhere in AZ - and several wildfires have already started, and the fire season just started. I’m praying for the monsoons to come soon.

I hope you and I both get rain soon...and MN doesn’t! :)

I’m glad to read that the hay you’ve seen looks OK.
I’ve been worried that my hay supplier might be short on hay this year and I have 2 horses who need hay for the winter.

The corn out here by us is rolling up. I drove by stunted soybeans today.

I have no field crops, but my pasture looks like heck.

Not sure if you know this already, but if you live near Kwik Trip stores , their premium gas is labeled “no elthanol”.

This does not apply to every store in the entire state, but I get mine in Cottage Grove near I-94’s exit area,in 2 places in Stoughton,Lake Mills, Lodi, and Oregon on the south east side where 138 leads to Stoughton.

We put that real gas in all our motors. I hope you live near one of the stations that has real gas.

We have one car that has 230,000 miles and going strong on real gas. My work van is a 1997 and runs great. All our mowers, snow blowers, weed wackers too. I’ve heard that small engines are especially harmed by corn in the gas mix.

I was telling our ping list leader, that there are large “Thank you Governor Walker” signs on the interstate between Lake Mills and Johnson Creek. Drove past them again today (smiling all the way!).

The corn in western Wis. looks good. We’ve had plenty of rain lately.
