In this case, someone ignored the policy detailed in an internal MPD directive that says evidence should be marked “in a manner that does not deface or alter its appearance.”

A plastic tie strap, plastic tag, and a Sharpie is all that's needed to properly label a gun. Of course that would make borrowing it slightly inconvenient.

If you are ever offered the choice of keeping your gun in an armory, don't. They get used, lost, or damaged worse than those.
